Motley Crue's Vince Neil Announces Solo Tour

Will Vince Neil Find Solo Success at Last?

Mona Rigdon
In a press release issued by www.PR.com, Gabe Reed confirmed that Vince Neil of Motley Crue fame will launch "an extensive South American tour" that begins in February. Though the tour has only confirmed three stops, more countries and dates are promised to be announced soon.

Confirmed venues are Santiago, Chile (Venue To Be Announced) on February 24, 2010, Buenos Aires, Argentina (El Teatro) on February 26, and Sao Paulo, Brazil (Carioca) on February 27.

Neil is currently recording a solo album entitled "Tattoos And Tequila" with bassist Dana Strum and Jeff Blando, both from Slaughter, and drummer Zoltan Chaney, with plans to include a cover of the Creedence Clearwater Revival song "Who'll Stop the Rain". The album's planned release date is April 2010.

Regarding the title of the album, Neil told The News Tribune, "It's rock 'n' roll...It has nothing to do with Motley Crue. Tattoos and tequila is basically my life."

Further, it has been reported by the Las Vegas Review-Journal that Neil is penning an autobiographical book with Esquire writer Mike Sager.

Will a solo U.S. tour follow? Who's to say? At the time of publication, Gabe Reed of Gabe Reed Productions was not immediately available for comment, but Neil and former band Motley Crue still have a following here in the U.S. Perhaps this summer, after his record has shown what Neil can do on his own, a U.S. tour could be in the works.

If former attempts at a solo career are any indication, the U.S. just isn't his market. His first attempt at a solo career, an album entitled Exposed, sold only about 300,000 copies when released in February of 1992 but eventually went platinum. His second solo effort, Carved In Stone, only reached number 139 on the charts. After rejoining Motley Crue, he has faced many trials and troubles, from losing a child to cancer, lack-luster appearances on reality shows including an attempt to revamp his solo career, to attempting to perform while so drunk he actually fell off stage.

Will a life seemingly dedicated to tattoos and tequila carry Vince Neil to solo success, or are his glory days long past? This may be Neil's last chance to prove himself as a viable solo artist.
