Motor City Shutdown?

Cries of Detroit Shared by Entire State of Michigan

RONYAE
Lately Detroiters and other Michiganders alike having been hearing about the sour state that it's financial situation is in; we've also been feeling and witnessing it first hand.

There have been closings of Secretary of State offices throughout Detroit for over several months now; and recently the local news covered a story on a possible closing of the casinos. No one is making any definite decisions at this point, but all this 'talk' has gotten me feeling a bit 'un'-secured. When you read the articles and reports on the issue, the more you read the more fearful one would get. The statistics are showing that the city of Detroit alone is in nearly over billions of dollars in a budget deficit. Ooooh, that's even sounds scary to me.

And let's not start on the fact that the city just closed over half of its schools....schools people; places set aside to strengthen and educate our children. But I'm not going to voice my opinion in this-just the facts. The facts that the city of Detroit is facing a time where major companies are taking their business and moving to other states.

And what does this leave the residents to do? When these companies take away their businesses, this also takes away the job opportunities, which is beginning to take on the look of a chain reaction of negativity. People you have to excuse me for becoming 'personal at times'...this is close to home. I live in the Metro Detroit area; I see buildings going to waste in my neighborhood, stores losing out and having to close, vacant lots so full of grass, that them are becoming stalk-like, creating the most crime-allowance area, and I see this everyday. We all are. I know you may have some issues that may be worst than these, and it's sad that it's that way for any city, or town to be in such a state. It makes you wonder what our tax dollars are truly being used for.

But the news coverage here in Detroit are constantly updating us on how this deficit in the budget may result in something very negative for Michiganders. I read a report that Granholm is "threatening a state shutdown". I nearly froze in my spot, but I had to get a better understanding of what a 'shutdown' will truly consist of.
