Street Full Face:
There is too much fluff in this motorcycle helmet category. So many colors and junk to sift through. But one of the more expensive models stands out above the rest. The Shoei Breakthrough RF-1000 Helmet. This is not a cheap motorcycle helmet. Average street price is about $450 but what you get is a snell and DOT helmet that has the accesseries like venting and padding that are top of the line. Sizing is true and the Shoei company fully stands behind the product. At the end of the article I will give you a cheaper model that has almost as good a setup as the Shoei.
Street Half Face:
This is typically the motorcycle helmet that the cruiser crwd will go after when they have to have a helmet. I tried a bunch of these helmets out which looked funning riding on a dirtbike but one helmet I like because the padding didn't itch and it actually felt like it would protect me in a crash. That helmet was Zamp Helmet's Flat Shorty SF-4 model. The Fit and finish was good and didn't look like it would scratch by just looking at it cross-eyed. It was a great price too at around $65.
Dirt Helmet:
So many options here. If you are after looks in this type of helmet then go with any Troy Lee Designs helmet. His stuff is top notch. But if you want the deal in a good helmet then look no further than the Answer Racing Nova 1 helmet. These helmets look good and are under $100 but still offer good protection with DOT ratings. This is the helmet that I use riding my supermoto. Padding is good and comfortable and the sizing was perfect for me.
Crossover Unclassified Helmets.
If you have a need for something untraditional in the helmet category. Then you need to look at the Arai Aluminum XD-3 Helmets. It is a cross between a dirt bike helmet and a street helmet. It fits like a street helmet. Has a bill like a dirt bike helmet. You will see these being worn by a lot of supermoto riders now despite the price of around $500.
Cheap Motorcycle Helmet:
Now for something that has shot under the radar but has top notch refinement and rivals helmets that are 4 times the price. That motorcycle helmet would be the O'Neal Racing ST-750 Helmet. Lots of designs, DOT rating, different visors and just flat out rocks in ventilation. It is a good buy at any price, but current street value has it around $150 at the time of this writing.
Whatever helmet you decide on, I hope that some of my info at least helped out a little. Thanks for reading.
