With warm weather upon us, many motorcycle enthusiasts will be hitting the road and taking trips or just a casual ride through their neighborhood streets. Whether you're planning a long distance adventure or just cruising through town, safety is really important for the person on the motorcycle and others around them. According to www.wikipedia.com, motorcycle riders are 30 times more likely to be involved in an accident then those who drive other vehicles. Let's look into some safety tips to follow that will help ensure you have a safe and enjoyable ride.

Pre-Trip Inspection- Before heading out on a ride; take the time to inspect key parts of the motorcycle. Check the tires and be sure they contain the correct air pressure, check all the spokes on the wheels, check the brakes, mirror, hoses, and turn signals, as well as the battery, oil and throttle.

Safety Gear- When operating a motorcycle rider's should wear their helmets at all times. This is a safety precaution as a rider never knows when an accident may occur and your head needs to be protected from the concrete and other objects.

It is also important to have the proper footwear when riding a motorcycle. It is best to wear footwear such as boots or tennis shoes. You feet are not properly protected if a rider wears footwear such as flip-flops or sandals.

Wearing long sleeve shirts and jackets is also a plus, as they can protect your arms from flying debris and other insects and objects while riding down the road.

Riding at Night- If you find yourself riding at night there are some safety tips that can be followed that can make your ride safer. Wear reflective gear when riding at night, this is so your gear will reflect in the headlights of oncoming vehicles and they will know you are there. It's also a great idea to clean your windshield periodically, this allows for clearer vision.

Weather Conditions- Weather conditions have been known to change without warning. Be prepared for any weather situation by carrying rain gear. Also, if you find yourself riding in the rain, slow down and drive with caution and be more aware of all the traffic around you.

Motorcycle riding can be a fun and exciting adventure, but it's very important to be sure to follow all safety rules and apply all safety tips into each and every ride.
