Motorola Releases Razr 2

Motorola has unveiled the first true successor to the original Motorola Razr. The Razr has undergone many revisions and minor updates, but this will be the first time Motorola's flagship phone will have a true successor. The Razr 2 will be released in three flavors; the V9, V9M, and V8.

The Razr 2 has many new features the biggest of which is Motorola's new Linux based operating system. This new operating system for the Razr line is supposed to be faster and better looking than the original. The operating system also features Java technology for superior application development for the phone. The new processor inside the Razr 2 will also speed the phone up with the new Arm 11 based processing unit which is touted as being about ten times faster than the processor in the original Motorola Razr.

The Razr 2 features up to two gigabytes of internal storage space. Crystal Talk technology is supposed to adjust volume and tone based on sounds in your environment to enhance call quality and clarity. External music controls are now featured on the phone for ease of use and the two inch external QVGA screen features touch screen input. The internal screen is 2.2 inches and also features QVGA resolution. The resolution of both screens is twice the resolution of the original Razr models.

The camera has been upgraded to two mega pixels and the web browser features full HTML support which will enhance the web browsing experience. The USB 2.0 port is capable of transferring songs and other data at high speeds with a single song transfer taking about two seconds. The phone retains most of the features that made the original Razr so popular including video playback and blue tooth support. The Razr 2 can synchronize song files from within Microsoft Windows Media Player 11 for ease of use. Depending on the network, the Razr 2 will allow two users to use their Razr 2 phones to have video phone calls.

On the outside the Razr 2 has received many changes as well. The internal frame is made out of a stainless steel material to make Motorola's slimmest phone the strongest yet. The material on the outside of the phone is designed to resist scratching under normal day to day use. The Razr 2 is two millimeters thinner than the original. GSM versions of the new Razr will start shipping in early July. The CDMA version of this phone will start shipping at some point later in the summer.

Personally I have US Cellular. Most of the better known networks such as Nextel, Cingular, and such use GSM networks now which is the global standard.

Thanks Aly! Jessica, I know that US Cellular is CDMA. I believe that Alltel and Verizon are also CDMA networks.
