Motorola V6 MAXX Review

Planning to Buy a Motorola V6 Maxx? Read This First

Telecommunications companies give out free mobile / cell phones to post paid subscribers in the Philippines, with a lock out period of 24 months. This means that even if you would like to switch to a different service provider, you'll have to wait till your contract expires, unless it is alright for you to spend twice on your phone bill.

Last year, Globe gave me the newest phone they had for Free -- a (then) stylish Motorola V6 Maxx, which was all over the newspapers. It was the best model of Motorola until after a few weeks when the V8 arrived. For me, it was fine, since I had the perception that Motorola makes the most dependable mobile phones in the world.

Features I Liked:

1. Even when the phone is off, Motorola V6 Maxx automatically calls your attention when the alarm is previously set, or when there's an event on your calendar.

2. Motorola V6 Maxx easily turns into a modem phone. I found it much easier to set it up with my computer rather than my wife's Nokia N70.

3. The 2 Mega Pixel camera takes good pictures

4. The flash of Motorola V6 Maxx turns into a flashlight when I need one.

5. The slim phone fits comfortably in your pocket.

6. Motorola V6 Maxx looks cool.

Improvements Needed:

1. When sending SMS or text message using Motorola V6 Maxx's "Motorola Phone Tools Software", the Phonebook entries are not all recognized as most of the entries that you will be able to see on your computer screen are just numbers. I still had to look for the names, type the numbers on notepad.exe, then copy and paste the numbers onto Motorola Phone Tools Software.

2. Though the glass on top looks good, you need to wipe it many times because of your fingerprints. Some reviews on the internet show that Motorola V6 Maxx's glass gets damaged easily as it cracks in a cold environment. I personally didn't encounter that problem because it is always hot here in the Philippines, unless you go to the malls. I dropped it a few times face down, but the glass of Motorola V6 Maxx proved to be durable. Anyway, though the glass looks good, it should be smaller.

3. The Flex (I don't know if this is the correct spelling) or the one that connects the lower part to the upper part, should be stronger.

4. The contacts/phonebook, calendar, to do list, etc. should have a safe place in the phone's memory, or Motorola V6 Maxx should have an option of saving the these data on the micro SD memory card.

What Ever Happened to My Motorola V6 Maxx???

After 10 months of owning a Motorola V6 Maxx, the earpiece just stopped working. It didn't bother me that much because the loudspeaker and headset still worked. If I wanted to have the Flex replaced, i would spend around $30. A hands-free bluetooth headset costs around $15, so I was thinking that if I get tired of connecting the headset, I would just have to buy a wireless one. This minor problem went on for around 2 months. It's ok, after all, I thought, Motorola creates the most dependable phones in the world.

This thinking has changed yesterday when my Motorola V6 Maxx suddenly stopped working. I just woke up and found out that all my contact numbers are gone! I was able to make a back up 3 months ago, but I knew that 50% of that already changed, I had recorded new numbers, and if I were to buy a new mobile phone, the Motorola Phone Tools Software wouldn't be compatible. Why won't it be compatible? It is because I don't intend to buy another Motorola phone again. Losing all your contact numbers without having the chance to have it recovered at the service center will make you feel devastated.

I think I will still own a Motorola, if it is given for free. And even if I intend to use one, I will no longer think that it is the same brandname that I always thought was the best. I will have to religiously back up all my data, just like what I do with my very "dependable" windows-based computer.

Weird! I had a Motorola RAZR for a long time, and it never gave me trouble...now I have a Nokia and it lost my pics!
