Motrin IB Review

Ibuprofen, Aspirin or Acetaminophen - Which is Right for You?

Motrin IB works! Let me give you a little background of what I deal with when it comes to pain. I have learned to live with pain daily for the past twenty or so years when my degenerated disc disease started. I have three degenerated discs in my neck rubbing bone on bone. My mobility to turn my neck is limited especially to the right side of me. I have not been one to take pills in general, even taking myself off of important prescriptions like Toprol XL two years ago or Hormone Replacement Therapy four years ago. My pain especially acts up when I'm at the computer typing. For several months I was just taking simple aspirin now and then when it would be to the point where I needed to lie down. I am now taking Motrin IB for this pain and I have really seen a major improvement with the pain, allowing me to even sleep through the night again. Motrin IB has 200 mg of Ibuprofen. I have heard that Ibuprofen is what you want to take when it comes to arthritic or any type pain in your joints. I have also heard that taking an acetaminophen for this type pain works too. However, I have tried Tylenol which has an acetaminophen but it never did the job for me. Motrin IB is my saving grace now.

I was curious to see what really the difference between an ibuprofen, acetaminophen, and aspirin products are. So I checked out some information from some professionals on the Internet and this is what I found.

They are all good medicines in that they all alleviate pain and fever. However, they do have differences in the chemical structure. Ibuprofen limits the body's production of prostaglandins which are fatty acids. These prostaglandins cause those pains and fevers. Ibuprofen reduces the swelling and redness around the area of pain. ibuprofen can upset a sensitive stomach. Now like ibuprofens, acetaminophen does the same thing of relieving pain and reducing fever, however it doesn't reduce the swelling and inflammation around the area of pain. However, acetaminophen is easier on the stomach. On the other hand, aspirin is considered safer than all of these pain relievers. Aspirin will reduce fever and pain in some cases however, for chronic cases like mine, it may not do the job as well. As with Acetaminophen, aspirin will not give you reduction in the inflamed areas either. And we all have heard how one aspirin a day can be good for the heart because it acts like a blood thinner. However, aspirin also can upset a stomach. So to summarize:

Ibuprofen takes away the pain, fever, and inflammation of the area, however it could be harsh on sensitive stomachs.

Acetaminophen takes away the pain and fever but not it does not reduce inflammation, however it is easier on the stomach.

Aspirin takes away pain and fever, however it does not reduce inflammation of the area and can irritate sensitive stomachs. It's also for the heart because it acts like a blood thinner.

I think why I personally felt the difference of using Motrin IB versus Tylenol was because this is what my body needed because of the chronic condition I have. Many times, I live with the pain rather than trying to reduce the inflammation because I don't want to be dependent on any pill. And I'm sure I make it worse by the strain I have with typing and without giving it some relief. However, if you do have persistent pain it might mean there is inflammation. It would be like if you had a cut on the finger and it was infected. You have to calm the inflammation down before it can heal. Now, in my case, I'm just looking to get a good night sleep and some relief now and then because this is a condition I have to live with. The bottom line to all of this is understanding which type of "pain" works best for what your body really needs.
