Climbing the Volcano--Mount St. Helens
If you are an outdoors person and enjoy climbing and hiking, Mount St. Helens will definitely give you a rush of adventure. There are camping areas to the north of the volcano, and many trails you can hike on all sides that will lead you through an explorative and thrilling journey. You will get to see first-hand this Historical Monument with all the spectacular views. If you climb to the top of Mount St. Helens, you will be in awe as you may be able to look into the volcano. The area is not very sturdy though and could collapse at anytime, because the volcano is still very active. Therefore, you would need to take extra precautions.
Things You Will Need For Your Climb
To climb Mount St. Helens, you will first need to attain a permit, which is inexpensive but needed if you are going to climb 4,800 feet and over. To climb that high, you will need some very good and sturdy shoes or hiking boots that can withstand the hike and ash. Keep your head protected with a hat that is hard or made for camping in case there is some falling rock. Remember, the higher you go, the colder it is, so you need to wear proper clothing and do not forget your sunglasses and/or goggles. Also, take plenty of water, because this climb will take you at least eight hours, if not more.
Enjoy Natures Awesome Beauty
Mount St. Helens is extremely beautiful, and you will see nature at its finest as you venture this volcano. Do not rush through, but take your time and bask in all the splendors it has to offer. You will see a diversity of colors in the forest trails as you go along, and there will be plenty of snow.
Climbing Mount St. Helens will be a very challenging but rewarding adventure. Each person who climbs must be healthy and able to withstand the intense changes that will occur as he or she climbs. Be sure to follow the measures for safety, so you will be able to have a very exciting, pleasurable and memorable adventure.
