If you are an adventure cyclist and you haven't been to Whistler you have missed the opportunity of visiting heaven. There's something for everyone here, right from beginners to mountain biking to the pros. There is assistance for the newbie to maps and tough trails for the pros.
Tough Whistler is full of trails and adventure I have covered the best of different categories.
The most famous:
1. Valley trail
Valley Trail is the most famous and well known of the trails in Whistler and is a bikers' favorite. It is 35 km long, paved and 3 km wide running north to south from emerald estates to spring creek. It covers schools, lakes and parks in it's journey throughout. It's the local commuter trail and vehicles are strictly prohibited from entering.
Beginner trails:
Whistler Interpretive Forest
The Whistler Interpretive Forest runs across from Function Junction and is actually a collection of many interpretive trails like Riverside Trail, Far Side Trail, Ridge Trail and Highline. You could go to the Loggers Lake and get in nature's pool or ride over the shaky Don MacLaurin Bridge or get into the thrill of coasting downhill.
Intermediate trails:
Big Timber is a trail with some steep, loose parts but then the breathtaking view is worth all the risk. The trail is in Kadenwood. Also the Trash in Function Junction has more breathtaking views of the Cheakamus River.
Pro trails:
"I have become comfortably numb" sang David Gilmour but it takes one to travel the namesake trail of the song.
All of the 26 kilometers is a grueling trail which runs from Wedgemount to Lost Lake. You also get the thrill of crossing a log bridge on your way over this trail and this trail has a total climbing of 1700 meters.
Also if you are one of those who value their limbs more than the thrill and the risk then you could always pop into the renowned Whistler Mountain Bike Park. I call it luxury Mountain biking. You get gear, bikes and lessons as well. Be sure to checkout what trails and places are open and the availability of tickets so you can know what to expect and make the most of your visit.
So there you go folks. Make that holiday adventurous instead of the lounging on beach. Go biking but be sure to take proper safety and preventive care.
