The average cost of moving a manufactured home is $10,000 which can be greatly reduced to as little as $5000 - $6000 if the home is to be moved to a location close by.
One company quoted the move of a 48 foot Double Wide from Mountain View Manufactured Home Park on Bull Mountain, Tigard, Oregon - to a location about one mile away for just over $6000, which included the basic resetting of the manufactured home at the location.
There are some companies that will move a manufactured home for much cheaper than some of the larger companies, but you do this at a risk.
There is of course a massive difference in price of hauling and removing a manufactured home property that is dependent on the size of the home, and the actual build. This will be assessed when the removal company inspects the validity of moving the property.
Sometimes there is just too much risk in moving a property, so if you do find a manufactured home you wish to move it is definitely an advantage to look for a few quotes on moving it to another location.
You should get a free inspection with any quote; this will give you an answer as to whether it can be moved. This could save you money - there is nothing worse than buying a manufactured home to move, then finding out that it cannot be removed from its current site.
Moving a manufactured home or other type of manufactured property is a skilled and quite laborious process, even for an experienced company. Some homes are easier to move than others, plus there is the plain fact that a large specialist manufactured home mover will have much more experience and knowledge when it come down to the actual move.
You will also need to have all the paperwork, licenses and insurance in place for the haulage of a manufactured home. You will get all these benefits and necessities sorted out or you when you use a larger more experienced company to move a manufactured home.
It is definitely worth paying the extra money to get the job done proper first time without any hitches. Going down the cheaper route to move a manufactured property can prove a very costly mistake - do your research into any company you are thinking to use for the actual haulage.
Try to remember that this is your investment we are talking about, all that hard work saving to buy your property means that now it will need a little or a lot of nurturing. Your manufactured home will in most cases need all the care and attention you can give it to get it up to scratch or make that bit of profit if you wish to make a little. So moving your manufactured home has to be done with a level of professionalism.
Forget cheap fixes to save money - and remember the insurance is a big player in your property move, make sure everything is covered again ask your questions such as:
Is my property covered for accidental damage during transit.
What happens if there is a storm during the move and my property is damaged - am I covered?
How quick will I get a new property or repairs should a third party cause damage to my manufactured home during transit.
Make sure that you do not have any wear and tear issues - better to get them fixed before any insurance quote - then make sure your insurance knows the property has new components and fixings etc.
In my experience it is very much beneficial to spend the extra $1000 or so to get a manufactured home re-sited on a different parcel of land. The overall experience is much smoother and professional - if you try to save too much money then the risks are obviously going to be increased - you can argue that you will be covered with insurance but that is not the point. An insurance claim takes time, may not cover you for everything and almost certainly if corners are cut you could end up without the cover you need.
Remember to get as many quotes as you can a good few weeks in advance of any manufactured home moving. This will give you the scope and the knowledge on how things will progress and proceed during the move. You will also be able to assess the different experience levels of haulers,
