So would that be why NBC is now unveiling its latest reality show- a singing competition called "The Voice of America?"
According to Access Hollywood, the latest singing show will be produced by reality producer Mark Burnett (you know, the mastermind behind a little show called "Survivor") and "Big Brother" producer John de Mol.
But "The Voice of America" will be a bit different from "American Idol".
First, it will feature four celebrity team leaders who will serve as mentors for their "team" of contestants. Like "Idol", contestants will be voted off throughout the season.
But in a unique twist, the celebrity coaches will choose the contestants blindly. That's right, they will not see the faces of the singers, but will instead judge solely on the sound of the contestant's voices (remember the shock on Cowell's face when a matronly Susan Boyle belted out her beautiful rendition of "I Dreamed a Dream" on "Britain's Got Talent?" Imagine if he hadn't been able to see her to begin with).
While the cast of "The Voice of America", has yet to be announced, but don't hold your breath waiting for ex-"Idol" judges to appear on the show-it sounds like they've all moved on.
Simon Cowell is already working on his next project, a FOX reality show, "The X Factor", while Paula Abdul is busy at work on the CBS dance competition show, "Live to Dance."
And ousted "Idol" judge Kara DioGuardi is busy writing a memoir titled A Helluva High Note, which is due out in April. Expect some "Idol" dish in that book, for sure!
Meanwhile "The Voice of America" will premiere on NBC in Spring, 2011- smack in the middle of "American Idol's" season. Let the games begin!

we'll see how they all compete!
Sounds exciting. Everything Mark Burnett touches turns to gold. Look like Idol has some stiff competition
