Move Over Tupperware, Taser Guns are the 'In' Product for Home Parties

Georgia Lund
Gone is the docile, domestic era of our mother's and grand mother's that hosted in-home Tupperware parties to sell plastic containers to keep leftovers fresh. Today's trend for in-home parties has turned towards self-protection by promoting the sales of taser guns.

According to an AP news article in the Detroit News, an Arizona woman opens her home to give her sales pitch to potential taser gun buyers.

Before the taser gun presentation and demonstration, there is a time of sharing fears and stories, reminiscent of Tupperware parties. Then the taser gun is shown, and the target audience, (pun intended), takes turns shooting the taser gun. Not at each other, but at a target.

The host of this taser party is Dana Shafman. She is not an employee of the company that markets a variety of taser weapons, Taser International, but an independent entrepreneur that has found her niche for selling the taser gun. She purchases the tasers at a discounted dealer rate, then re-sells them at her in-home parties for a profit. Ms. Shafman is a single woman living alone, and pitches the product primarily to other women for protection of themselves and their families.

Taser International likes Ms. Shafman's selling approach so well, they intend to build a set resembling a living room at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas that will be held next week, and have Ms. Shafman hold a taser party there.

Even though the taser gun is illegal in several states, the company's stock prices have been steadily increasing on Wall Street.

In-home taser parties have caught national attention, but they are not the only way to purchase these weapons. Direct online sales from the Taser International company can get a pearl black, metallic blue or metallic pink taser gun shipped to you within 24 hours. Taser International has been in business since the 1990's, offering training and support for those who purchase their taser guns.

As shocking as it may be to some, the consumer demand for self-protection weaponry is there, and someone is going to meet that consumer demand. Whether it's online sales, door-to door sales, in-store sales, back alley sales, or in-home sales parties, the demand will be met. An enterprising Ms. Shafman discovered that and uses that to her sales advantage.

Tupperware party hosts served beverages, along with chips and dip. No mention of snacks being served at this taser gun party, what food would compliment a taser gun demonstration?
