The Hunter has become the Hunted - We see this line used in almost ever action adventure or spy oriented film that comes our way. It always gets used when the tides of the battle turn or the rolls of the hero and villain become reversed. It's a good line, but it appears too often. Each time I hear this phrase I just roll my eyes and ask myself why. When a man uses this phrase in the movie it always seems to me that he is trying to sound tougher then he really is.
Let's split up - Mostly used in scary movies this line is still in use today. You would think after Scooby Doo's repeated use of the line in the 1960's we would be tired of it by now, but no. If a party has to split up in a horror film, please find a more interesting way to do it. Also this line gets used a lot in action movies where a team has to infiltrate an enemy encampment of something to that degree.
Be afraid be vary afraid - It was good once, but not over and over again. I see this line used a lot in psychotic thrillers, horror films and comedy. The psycho tells his victims to be afraid, the creature says it to his prey or someone is parodying this line in the comedy, but this line is a parody in itself. Once or twice is enough for this line, it now needs to end.
Are you crazy? - Yes I am. But for real, we see this line in almost every movie. It is not really the line that is overused per say but rather the context in which it is used. Normally it's the antagonist being asked this question, or the protagonist who is getting ready to do something heroic and drastic.
Let's take this outside - This mostly appears in westerns but it has popped up a few times in modern films. Normally some tough guy issues a challenge to someone then they say "Let's take this outside" it just is so predictable. The only thing worse then hearing this line is when someone tries to make a point or be funny after using this line. The challenge is issued and the first member of the party steps outside, then the other person closes the door, runs away, or backs down in some fashion.
I'll go, you stay - Same implication as "Let's split up". The person who goes is already done for, and the person who stays is left in the dark about their counterpart's fate. Usually both parties here end up dying, so obviously it was never a good idea.
Oh my God - This is used not only in every single movie around, but overused in each one. When someone is surprised, when their scared, when their happy, when their sad. Come up with something a little bit more original then that people, one phrase should not be used so frequently. And the whole emphasis of the term "Oh my God" is taken out of the context in which it is supposed to be used. "Oh my God" is a term used by religious people to acknowledge their creator, not exclaim surprise at the site of any and everything Hollywood comes out with.
Come on it'll be fun! - No it will not be fun when someone ends up dead. This is the famed line used when some wild thrill seeker tries to convince his or her shy social inept friend to do something crazy. They agree and low and behold, it was not fun.
"You'll never get away with this!" said our hero
"Ah, But I already have" replied our villain
The spy versus spy or action adventure genera loves this one. In an exchange between our hero, or his girlfriend, and the main villain it will almost certainly come up. There's really nothing to say about the overuse of this line, and after a while we all become sick and tired of it. The worst part is, the villain is usually wrong, and he has indeed not gotten away with anything as of yet and inevitably is thwarted.
It can't fail its fool proof! - No, it is not fool proof. These plans are doomed to fail in multiple ways, and the audience knows it. Nothing is fool proof, and that is something that applies in the real world as well in any Hollywood film.
I'm sure there are many many more lines that we see used way to much in the film industry, but to me these are the most common. You think that after 100 years of film production we could have come up with something more original then what we hear in movies today.
