It's cold in the Dallas/Ft. Worth, Texas, area, which makes it the perfect time to get inside and enjoy a great movie. There are a few interesting things going on this week at local theaters. We have some children's screenings, a couple "Retro Classics" you won't want to miss, and one theater celebrating "Revenge is a Woman Week."
Wednesday, January 25:
The historic Texas Theatre in Oak Cliff is celebrating "Revenge is a Woman Week" with a few screenings of movies featuring ladies creatively offing people who spurn them. What better film could you watch to commemorate the event than "Kill Bill Vol. 1"? Quentin Tarantino's 2003 classic starts a limited run, the film being shown in its original 35mm glory.
Thursday, January 26:
Thursdays are "Retro Classic" night at the different Movie Tavern locations all over town. This week's films are two 1980s classics you won't want to miss on the big screen. Select locations are showing "Die Hard" and "Batman."
"Die Hard" is the film that kicked off Bruce Willis's action movie career and a film franchise that is still going strong today. Tim Burton's "Batman" had unlikely superhero Michael Keaton donning the cape and cowl for the first time, jumpstarting a series that still has moviegoers begging for more.
Friday, January 27:
Oak Cliff's Texas Theatre keeps the "Revenge is a Woman Week" festivities rolling with a screening of Francois Truffaut's "The Bride Wore Black." In this 1968 classic, a bride is left standing alone on her wedding day after her groom is shot dead. The bride will not stand for this. She sets out to systematically hunt down all five of the men responsible for his death and take them out.
The movie will be followed by an "all-in-black wedding reception" that will feature live DJs Wild in the Streets and Keith P. Black formal attire is highly encouraged. Before the movie, check out the trailer on the venue website, but be warned: It's not for work or children!
Saturday, January 28:
There's no need to worry. The children haven't been forgotten. Studio Movie Grill is showing "Dino Dan and the Mighty Machines" Saturday at 10:59 a.m. Based on the hit TV series, this centers on young Dan Henderson, who is training to be a paleontologist. Using his imagination, Dan brings dinosaurs into the real world. He collects clues and solves mysteries using the scientific method. Screenings are only $2.00 for everyone.
