Movie Preview for March 28th, 2008

Luke M.
I love movies. I look forward to seeing almost every movie that comes out. There's always a question of whether or not it's a good movie. As a seriously moviegoer, you've got to keep your mind open. Perhaps the most unlikely film will be your favorite film of the year. You never know. So I have gone ahead, taken a look at some movies coming out in March and I decided to give my readers a glimpse at some of those movies. Once you've read what I've got to say, it'll be up to you whether or not you want to see the films listed below.

21

Directed by Robert Luketic
Written by Ben Mezrich, Peter Steinfeld, and Allan Loeb

Starring Kevin Spacey, Jim Sturgess and Kate Bosworth, 21 looks like a fun, smart and witty movie about wise-cracking MIT students trying to score it big in Vegas. Mickey Rosa (Spacey) brings this group of brainiacs together, forming a blackjack team. With a few winks, a few hand gestures, the MIT students rob a few casinos before the authorities catch on. The movie may look like a run at the popularity of Ocean's 11, but I believe this may be even more hip than that. Sturgess plays Ben Campbell, the lead protagonist, the guy who does the right thing when everything else goes bad. Bosworth plays Jill Taylor, his love interest. Sure, we don't have the likes of George Clooney or Brad Pitt taking down casinos, but we do have Kevin Spacey. I know he hasn't been putting out a lot of hits lately, but Spacey has proven time and time again that he is a great actor. Look at all of his accomplishments; American Beauty, The Usual Suspects, L.A. Confidential. Finally, I'll definitely be there to see 21 on March 28th.

Superhero Movie

Directed by Craig Mazin
Written by Craig Mazin

I haven't seen or heard of this movie until I started my research. Well, it's a spoof of the recent superhero movies. You'll probably see references to everything, from Batman Begins to Fantastic Four. This big joke of a movie is written and directed by one of the guys who wrote Scary Movie. Ironically enough, it's got Leslie Nielsen in it. Christopher McDonald plays Lou Landers, Jeffrey Tambor plays Dr. Whitby, Brent Spiner plays Dr. Strom, and Marion Ross plays Aunt Lucille. If this looks like another Date Movie or another Meet the Spartans, I won't be the first in line or the last in line to see Superhero Movie. But if the preview to Superhero Movie looks anything like the first Scary Movie, I'll go see it. We won't know how bad or how good this movie will be until March 28th.

Kevin Hart plays Trey
Michael Ensign plays Priest
Cassie Jaye plays Teenage Kissing Girl
Steve Monroe plays Nerdy Dragonfly

American Zombie

Directed by Grace Lee
Written by Grace Lee, and Rebecca Sonnenshine

This is a documentary-style zombie movie. Grace Lee directs and stars in the movie as herself. She tries to capture the existence a community of zombies on film. She quickly discovers the truth about these zombies lies within a virus. In this hypothetical reality, Joel (Al Vicente) is an undead political activist and founder of Z.A.G. (Zombie Advocacy Group). Judy (Suzy Nakamura) wants to find her true love and tries to deny the fact that she's a zombie. Ivan (Austin Basis) is a convenience store clerk aspiring to be a writer. Lisa (Jane Edith Wilson) is a florist who specializes in funeral arrangements for other people. Sounds rather ironic doesn't it? Well, this movie sounds like a romp. But maybe it'll be too funny for its own good. We won't know until March 28th.

Alice Amter plays Esperanza McNunn
Kasi Brown plays Maude
Monique Edwards plays Cheryl Park
Ossie Mair plays Dr. Stan Boyd

Priceless

Directed by Pierre Salvadori
Written by Benoit Graffin, and Pierre Salvadori

This one has confused me a great deal. One source (moviefone.com), tells me that this is coming out on March 28th and one source (imdb.com) tells me that it's already been released. In fact, they both pretty much say that Priceless is already out on DVD.

In this sexy and stylish-looking romantic comedy, Jean (Gad Elmaleh) is a shy young bartender who gets mistaken for a millionaire by Irene (Audrey Tautou). Irene is a scheming opportunist who eventually finds out Jean's true identity and tries to slip away without pushing her intentions any further. Jean, daunted and love-struck, has no intention of letting her go so soon. Eventually, Jean's determination lands him in the position of a gigolo at a luxury hotel and Irene begins to see Jean as quite the catch. To be honest, I haven't seen or heard anything about this movie until I started this research. It sounds like it could be fun. They say it's like a hip, new version of Breakfast At Tiffany's. But, we won't know anything more until the movie comes out in theaters on March 28th.

Marie-Christine Adam plays Madeleine
Vernon Dobtcheff plays Jacques
Jacques Spiesser plays Gilles
Annelise Hesme plays Agnes

Great reporting! I wanted to see Stop Loss, but I don't know if any of these other movies sound all too appealing. I guess I'll have to watch he trailers. Thanks for sharing!
