The Plot: I was not aware that the world needed another movie where prisoners are made to fight to the death for the amusement of those that watch in some bleak future but I guess we needed at least one more. This movie is at least clever enough to offer up a new twist. Now the death row inmates that battle for their freedom are in fact moved by mind control devices, there motions part of an elaborate video game. There is some gamer who gets to decide when you shoot and when you run. Cable is the best puppet in these games but knows he can never be free until he brings the system down from the inside.
Star Power: Cable is played by Gerard Butler who is always good at playing intense and looks very comfortable around the explosions and gunfire of this film. Mr. Butler just got done doing a romantic comedy but he is still best known for being the king of the Spartans in 300. The other big name for this movie is the villain played by Michael Hall. Michael has not gotten to do a lot of film work but in the TV world he has started in to hit shows Six Feet Under and Dexter. Krya Sedgwick and John Leguizamo also have small roles in the film.
Behind the Screen: This movie has so much thrills and actions it could not be directed by just one person. Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor team up to co-direct this movie. Mark Neveldine is the man behind the subtle action movies Crank. Brian Taylor is the writer of the Crank movies and also wrote Gamer.
What to expect: Watching the last Crank movie was kind of like watching a live action first person shooter when it was not being too crude to watch. Now the same team brings you a movie that is suppose to be like a first person shooter and I think the action is going to be really good. I am not so confident about the plot and I am thinking its mostly going to loosely hold together between action scenes. It would be cool if we could get some commentary of the gamer lifestyle and its relationship with violence, but that might be too deep.
