All You Need to Know About This Delightfuly Dishonesty Comedy

This is a short primer for the comedy The Invention of Lie. I promise that the release date for this movie is on September 25th, 2009. The trailer for this film can be found at http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/theinventionoflying/

The Plot: Imagine a world where everybody told the truth all the time. That is the setting for Ricky Gervais new comedy. In this modern day earth he plays Mark, a loser who can't seem to make anything of his life. That is until he discovers he has the ability to lie. Being the only one who knows lying even exist has its rewards because everyone believes Mark no matter what he says. Soon he is rich and famous all because of his dishonesty. Despite all this good luck due to his fibs Mark still can't seem to lie his way into the heart of the woman he loves.

Star Power: Jennifer Garner plays the woman of Mark's affection and from the preview she seems to be handling comedy quite while. Garner is more known for romantic and dramatic movies. The start of the film, Ricky Gervais, is no stranger to a good comedy. He created the smash British hit The Office and stared in the stateside comedy Extra's. The concept of this movie must have charmed a lot of folks in Hollywood because there is a huge cast for this film. Jonah Hill, Louis C. K., Rob Lowe and Tina Fey all have roles in the film.

Behind the Screen: Ricky Gervais and his creative partner Matthew Robinson both directed and wrote this creative comedy. This will be the first major film that Ricky has directed but he has directed many episodes of the hit shows Extras and The Office. He also wrote the bulk of the material for both of those programs.

What to expect: Some of the best comedies take a very simple creative concept and use it to fuel a very funny film. Then again some of the worse comedies tried to do the same thing and failed. The fact is that having a high concept is either going to make or break you. The big joke in this film is of course the nature of honesty and the amusing advantages one could have if everyone believed everything they said. The movie cannot survive on this joke alone though or it will get old fast. It has to have a solid story, witty writing and good actors. It looks like this movie might have all of those things. So we might have all the right ingredients for a great comedy. Some people don't seem to get Ricky Gervais, and if you are one of those people this movie might not be the one for you. For the rest of the world that finds him pretty darn funny, don't miss this flick.
