Movie Primer: Jennifer's Body

All You Need to Know About This Dark Comedy Horror Flick

This is a short primer for the bloody dark comedy Jennifer's Body. The film has its wide release on September 18th, 2009. The trailer for this film can be found at http://www.apple.com/trailers/fox/jennifersbody/

The Plot: Jennifer Click is the type of girl that boys desire and girls want to be friends with. She is the typical teenage temptress and her best friend is Anita who appears to be very nerdy and plain. It looks like just another high school in the Hollywood reality where everyone fits into his or her nice little roles. Things get complicated when Jennifer gets possessed by some sort of demon and starts killing off all the boys that flock to her. When Anita finds out that her friend is evil she becomes to determined to destroy her even if she has to do it herself.

Star Power: The body chosen to play Jennifer is most likely the best person who could be cast at the moment. Megan Fox is one of Hollywood's leading temptresses right now and so she seems a perfect fit for the seductive demon. Amanda Seyfried who was the lead in last summers surprise hit Mama Mia plays the nerdy best friend! J. K. Simmons is also in the movie doing what he does best playing a supporting role with gusto.

Behind the Screen: Its kind of cool that a horror movie with two female leads is also being put together by a female writer and director. Karyn Kusuma, whose last major movie was Aeon Flux, directs the movie that is written by Diablo Cody. This is only Diablo Cody second script but she has made herself a household name with her first movie, Juno.

What to expect: At first glance this movie might seem like just another horror movie filled with teen sex, blood and screams. That much is true, this movie is being sold as a horror movie and it plans to deliver. Yet its written by Diablo Cody so the dialogue is snappy and much smarter than what you are use to finding. Sometimes a movie plays with stereotypes and doesn't depend on them. I am guessing that there is more to this movie then Jennifer's body. Even if it does end up being just a simple horror flick, it will at least be a well-made one. The action looks to be pretty exciting and the visuals for the movie are very nice. What I have seen from the trailer suggest a really well put together movie.

Great over-view! Check out mine if you'd like; just posted it today :) I usually avoid horror flicks, but I may just have to go see this one...
