All You Need to Know About This Space Bound Thriller

Grant Bracken
This is a short primer for the sci-fi thriller Pandorum. This film will have its wide release on September 18th. The trailer for this film can be found at http://www.apple.com/trailers/independent/pandorum/

The Plot: Corporal Bower and Lt. Paton just woke up from a deep space sleep. They are members of a crew for a ship that is supposed to have thousands of people inside, but when they wake up it appears to be empty. One of the missing is Bower's wife who he is desperate to find no matter what the odds. As they struggled to figure out what happened to everyone else things just keep getting stranger and stranger. The ship is invested with creatures that might be human but have been changed in terrible ways. Paton and Bower might be changing too. By the end of this horror story the two passengers might end up wishing they were still napping.

Star Power: Dennis Quaid is most likely the biggest name in this movie; he is playing Paton, and is no stranger to a good action movie. He just got done playing another commander in G. I. Joe. Ben Foster, best known for his roles in X-Men 3 and 3:10 to Yuma, plays Bower. Cam Gigandet has a supporting role in the film. Cam is a rising star that last played bad vamp Jacob in the film adaptation of Twilight. Antje Traue also has a role in the film as a hardcore survivor named Nadia. Antje is a veteran German actress making his first appearance in a US film.

Behind the Screen: Pandorum is one of two films directed by Christian Alvart this year (the other being the thriller Case 39) but before that he mostly made films in Germany. Travis Milloy wrote the screenplay. For Travis this will be his first major project having directed and wrote a small film called Street Gun or Thugs depending on where you find a copy.

What to expect: Despite what they might say about space, this movie is going to try its best to make you scream. It's hard to tell if this movie is more of a thriller or a horror movie. If it's a thriller expect the focus to be on the creepy situation of being alone in space and trying to figure out what has happened. If they are going more of a straight up horror approach then the focus will be a the creatures that lurk within. The preview seems to focus on the action and the creepy monsters so I expect it will be a horror movie. The visuals look pretty creepy and either way this should be an interesting film.
