Movie Quotes from Never Been Kissed, the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, Spellbound & the Wedding Date
Ten Quotes About Love and Relationships
Life and Love are inseparable. Love intersects each and every life, molding and shaping us through our encounter with it. Sometimes this encounter can be pleasant or painful, other times it's a blend of both, but either way love alters us, it never leaves a soul unmarked by its presence.
Movie - Spellbound (1945)
Ingrid Bergman's character, Constance, a sheltered and bookish psychiatrist, shares her thoughts about love with a new co-worker & fellow psychiatrist, Jonathan Edwards, (Gregory Peck), who she is falling for:
Spellbound Movie Quote - Ingrid Bergman # 1
"People read about love as one thing, and experience it as another...but then they expect kisses to be like lyrical poems and embraces like Shakespearean dramas..."
Sometimes I get caught up in the magic of romance, and this quote reminds me that in order to have a lasting relationship I need more than just that warm fuzzy feeling and sparks. It takes love, hard work, selflessness, commitment and devotion. And of course, some stomach butterflies every time we kiss.
As the scene progresses, Constance continues to chat with Jonathan about love. This is another one of my favorite Constance quotes:
Spellbound Movie Quote - Ingrid Bergman # 2
"I think the greatest harm done to the human race has been done by the poets...they keep filling peoples heads with delusions about love, writing about it as if it were a symphony orchestra or a flight of angels...."
I love this quote because sometimes we do set ourselves up for disappointment in love. If we don't feel the butterflies or that giddy, I'm floating on air feeling after we kiss a new beau or go on a couple of dates, it doesn't mean we should give up. Love and romance take time to grow. We shouldn't throw in the towel just because the sparks aren't there right away. You have to give things time. Love is a work in progress. It's a marathon, not a sprint.
Movie - Never Been Kissed (1999)
Josie Geller, played by Drew Barrymore, is a shy, lonely and awkward copy editor for the Chicago Sun Times. She is having a discussion at lunch about love and relationships with two female co-workers. Anita, played by Molly Shannon, urges Josie to seriously consider getting out more and having a real social life. Both of these quotes are from Josie. She says:
Never Been Kissed Movie Quote - Drew Barrymore #3
"The right one is out there but I'm not going to kiss a whole bunch of losers to get to him."
I agree with Josie's character. I believe dating is all about quality, not quantity. I'd rather suffer through a serious dating drought, than go on a million dates with a bunch of "frogs."
Never Been Kissed Movie Quote - Drew Barrymore # 4
"...that thing, that moment when you kiss someone and everything around you becomes hazy...and you realize that this person is the only person that you're suppose to kiss for the rest of your life and for one moment you get this amazing gift and you want to laugh and you want to cry because you feel so lucky that you've found it and so scared that it will go away..."
This quote gives me hope that every searching single, including myself, has a matching sock out there. It makes me want to believe there's a perfect guy for me, and when I meet him I'll just know. I sure hope Josie Geller is right about "that moment."
Josie Geller inadvertently falls in love while working on an undercover assignment for the Chicago Sun Times at a local high school. Michael Vartan plays Sam Coulson, the English teacher who wins her heart. In this scene, which takes place in a packed baseball stadium, Josie anxiously awaits the arrival of Sam Coulson, to receive her first real kiss.
Josie says:
Never Been Kissed Movie Quote - Drew Barrymore # 5
"It wasn't supposed to be like this. I was just trying to do my job and then things happened, well, life happened and now I'm here."
I love this quote because it is so true. Life takes us by surprise, and when you least expect it, what you've been searching for finds you.
Movie - The Wedding Date (2005)
Kat, Debra Messing's character, hires Nick, played by Dermot Mulroney, to be her escort for her baby sister's wedding. Her ex-fiancé is the best man and Kat is on a quest to make him jealous and win him back. Instead, Nick and Kat fall in love.
Nick says this quote to Kat:
The Wedding Date Movie Quote - Dermot Mulroney #6
"I think I'd miss you even if we never met."
His words are amazingly romantic! I'd like to think we all have this heart and soul connection to our future mates/significant others. Even if we haven't seen each other or met yet, our hearts longs for one another.
Movie - The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (2005)
Based on the best selling young adult novel by Ann Brashares, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants is a coming of age movie about friendship and love. Careful and cautious Lena, played by Alexis Bledel, is falling in love with a handsome Greek suitor. Lena is a reserved and quiet soul who longs to let go of her inhibited ways, and jump into the unpredictable waters of love. She says:
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants Movie Quote - Alexis Bledel # 7
"He's right I am afraid. There's a part of me that wants to let him in, but then I feel myself put this wall up, but I don't know why.... it makes me so sad...people who have lost everything can still be open to love, while I who have lost nothing am not..."
I can totally relate to this quote. Like Lena, I've played it safe with matters of the heart. This quote reminds me that in life we must take chances. Love is all about taking a risk, even if you make a fool of yourself. Lena's quote inspires me to tear down any walls around my heart, constructed from bricks of past disappointments, insecurities and fears. To find love, I have to allow myself to be found. I cannot hide or sit on the sidelines.
During the last scene of the movie the girls gather together at the wedding of Carmen's father. The girls reminisce about their unforgettable summer and the magic of the traveling pants. They discuss how their individual adventures have changed each of them, but not the strong bond of love they have for each other. Each of the friends, Bridget, Carmen, Lena, Tibby, (played by Alexis Bledel, America Ferrera, Blake Lively, and Amber Tamblyn, say a part of this closing scene quote:
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants Movie Quote - Alexis Bledel, America Ferrera, Blake Lively, and Amber Tamblyn # 8
"But we knew now that no matter how far we traveled on our own separate paths, somehow we would always find our way back to each other, and with that we can get through anything..."
Friendships are a necessity, an essential part of our lives. We need them to weather the storms of life. They are our rocks, our foundation. They are the people who know us best and still love us anyway. I love this quote because it reminds me of my own wonderful circle of friends.
Bailey, played by Jenna Boyd, is a pre-teen girl dying of cancer. She befriends Tibby, Amber Tamblyn's character, who is working on a documentary project. Bailey becomes an unwanted production assistant to Tibby, but they quickly form a close friendship. After Bailey loses her battle with cancer, Tibby discovers a video Bailey made for her.
Two of my favorite quotes are from this scene. Bailey says:
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants Movie Quote - Jenna Boyd # 9
"Maybe there's a little bit of loser in all of us..."
Everyone has a little bit of geek in them. Even the supermodels and top actors of the world went through some kind of awkward phase. No one is perfect and no one should pretend to be.
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants Movie Quote - Jenna Boyd # 10
"Being happy isn't about having everything and your life being perfect...maybe it's about stringing all the little things together...."
Bailey's words show me that we should appreciate life, embrace it, even if it's not exactly what we planned. You can find the beauty in the little things. It's all about looking at life with gratitude.
