Movie Releases for 2009

Sarah Barr
2009 is sure to be a great year for movies! With movie budgets soaring the effects are becoming more and more unbelievable. The movie experience is leaving viewers breathless and wanting more. Here's a look at what 2009 will have to offer.

January

January starts out on the light side with a comedy that pits Anne Hathaway against Kate Hudson in Bride Wars. A story about two friends who end up booking their weddings for the same day. Inkheart, starring Brendan Fraser, brings a popular children's series to the big screen. And perhaps one of the most anticipated movies will be Notorious, a look at Hip Hop's past and the life of the Notorious B.I.G.

February

The book He's Just Not That Into You sold millions of copies and empowered women all over the world. February sees the book brought to film and is sure to be hilarious with a star studded cast of actresses. Loveable nerds head across country to storm George Lucas' Skywalker Ranch and fulfill a Star Wars dream in Fanboys. Madea returns in Madea Goes to Jail, and the Jonas brother take the big screen in 3-D for what is sure to be a sold out performance.

March

Julia Roberts and Clive Owen team up in the spy thriller Duplicity. Reese Witherspoon lends her voice to the animated character "Ginormica" and teams up to save the world in Monsters vs. Aliens. Ladies will swoon over the romantic comedy The Accidental Husband, and everyone will get a little nostalgic over the book turned movie Race to Witch Mountain.

April

Kids love April as tv favorites DragonballZ and Hannah Montana come to theatres and as if that wasn't enough, teen heartthrob Zac Efron stars in the movie Seventeen about a grown man that suddenly turns 17 again.

May

May is the month for sequals and series. Comic book fans everywhere will grip the edge of their seats waiting to see X-Men Origins: Wolverine on May 1st. The terminator will return again in Terminator Salvation:The Future Begins- unfortunately Arnold will not take up his role as the original terminator. Star Trek fans are not to be forgotten with the return of Star Trek XI, and Tom Hanks is once again on the hunt for the truth in Dan Brown's sequal to The Davinci Code titled Angels and Demons.

June

TV lovers will rejoice at seeing Will Farrel in Land of the Lost, and The A Team is sure to make an impression. Perhaps one of the most highly anticipated movies of the year will be Transformers:Revenge of the Fallen. Most of the cast from the first movie will return for this action packed sequal to the 2007 hit that will also be shown in IMAX theatres. For those looking for a little less action, Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds heat up the screen in a romantic comedy called The Proposal.

July

John Cusack will pull in his cult following to see 2012, his science fiction movie for Sony Pictures. But the barnburner of the month will be the next movie in the Harry Potter series Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. No doubt readers young and old will be lining the streets to get this hot ticket. Not a lot of other movies are slated for this month. Is it fear of Harry Potter?

August

Men in their thirties will be squirming with anticipation to see their childhood hero brought to life in GI Joe. My thoughts are that women in their thirties will be subjected to it as well, so let's hope there's a story line to go with all the action. So far it doesn't look like the hero will have much competition except for Final Destination 4, and a horror flick directed by Rob Zombie titled Tyrannasaurus Rex.

September

September will see a few thrillers like Armored starring Skeet Ulrich, and Bruce Willis in The Surrogates but then it will lighten up a bit with the kid's movie Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and the musical Fame, so air out your leotards!

October

Leonardo DiCaprio is sure to dazzle us in the Martin Scorcese film Shutter Island about a US Marshall chasing a female murderer. Where the Wild Things Are will bring the children's classic book to the big screen with the help of Benecio Del Torro, who is a bit of a wild thing himself. And for those of us with a weak stomach I'm sad to say it's not over, Saw VI will hit theatres just in time for Halloween.

November

A new version of A Christmas Carol starring Jim Carrey will get everyone geared up for the holiday season. George Clooney and Cate Blanchett will bring Mr. and Mrs. Fox to life from Roald Dahl's book The Fantastic Mr. Fox. Russell Crowe will steal our hearts (and the heart of Sienna Miller) as Robin Hood in Nottingham.

December

Up against Oprah in The Princesss and the Frog will be James Cameron's new film Avator, which has a pretty impressive cast, an adventurous storyline about and ex-marine and a far away planet, and a rumoured budget of $200 million in production costs. We'll see...
