Movie Remakes Are Ridiculous

I love movies. I watch the Oscars every year and have an Oscar party. I love movies that are fresh and original. I know that it's hard to reinvent the wheel; however, all I am asking for is a tidbit of newness in a film. A twist in an old idea isn't a bad thing. I loved Letters to Juliet because it was a fresh take on a love story. Yes, it was about finding true love in Italy; however, it was based on an actual group of ladies who wrote letters filled with love advice to couples who wrote to them. This is an example of a romantic movie with a twist. Today, it seems as if movie makers are running out of fresh ideas for movies. They are relying heavily on remaking movies to bring in the movie going audiences, I am not keen on movie remakes. The original movies were good enough. There is no need to recycle them. In other words, movie remakes are ridiculous. Here are a few movie remakes that didn't need to be made.

The original Psycho was bone-chilling. Anothy Perkins was creepy as Norman Bates In addition the shower scene with Janet Leigh is hauntingly classic. However, Vince Vaughn and Anne Heche in the Psycho remake was laughable. Yes, this movie remake was more of a comedy than a horror film. A spoof of this classic horror movie would have been good. But, remaking it was just a cruel joke to fans of the original film.

The original Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory was pure fun and fantasy. Gene Wilder played the title role to perfection and the music was fantastic. However, in the remake, Johnny Depp played the title role of Willy Wonka in a macabre way that was quirky. It was creepy and annoying. In addition, the kids were brats and the music was strange. Yes, Johnny Depp is a great actor; however, his talent was wasted in this remake of a family classic.

The original Robin Hood was an adventure that was worth watching. However, how many remakes of this movie do we need to see? I prayed that after Kevin Costner's version of Robin Hood hit theaters, Robin Hood would retire in Sherwood Forrest. However, Russell Crowe brought him back to the silver screen. Russell Crowe's acting is bad enough without him ruining a classic movie. The only thing the remake is good for is insomnia.

There are movie remakes that are okay such as the remake of the 80's classic The Karate Kid. I like Jackie Chan movies. However, the remake falls short of the original. There has been talk about movie remakes in the works such as Back to the Future and Top Gun. It would be a shame to ruin Marty McFly and Maverick. I hope that movie remakes will die out. This is because creativity and imagination must make their way back into movie making. Otherwise, we will surely see remakes of The Sound of Music and Mary Poppins. Source: None
