Movie Review: 2012

Michele Mathews
Even though I know I should focus on the here and now, sometimes I think about the future. I wonder what the future holds for me, for my grandkids and for future generations. I wonder if the global warming theory is true and that someday our world will end.

Rated PG-13 for intense disaster sequences and some language, 2012 is an action-packed movie and was released in November 2009. This movie stars John Cusack as writer Jackson Curtis and Amanda Peet as his ex-wife and mother of their two children Kate Curtis.

At the beginning of 2012, Adrian Helmsley, played by Chiwetel Ejiotor, is part of a geophysical team studying how the Earth's core is heating up. In turn, Helmsley warns President Thomas Wilson, portrayed by veteran actor Danny Glover, that because of the core heating up the Earth's crust is unstable and every person is in danger from the natural disasters that are about to happen. Helmsley urges the president to help save the human race because they will be wiped out if no action is taken.

Meanwhile, Jackson decides to take his two children on a camping trip. He runs into Charlie Frost, a radio broadcaster and hippie played by Woody Harrelson. Charlie shares with Jackson what he knows about the Earth's interiors and what he knows about the "arks" that the world leaders are having built to save some of the human population. Jackson knows what he has to do to save his family and races into action.

2012 was an on-the-edge-of-your-seat kind of movie. The visuals were just awesome. I really can't think of another word to use. Flying a plane through a huge city as buildings collapse around you is a pretty amazing feat, especially when you have flown only a few times. However, at times, the storyline is a bit much, a bit far-fetched. When I saw previews before the movie was released in the theaters, I really thought it would be a tad realistic. I was expecting it to give me an insight into what might just happen should our world come to an end.

Overall, this movie is one I would recommend if you like action, more action than any movie I have seen in a while. It is a bit long, but with the action I was kept in my seat and refused to move until the end of the movie. Then all I could say was, "Wow." Despite the storyline flaws, 2012 still makes you wonder what the future holds for all of us.

Thanks for this insightful movie review. :-) I have not seen this one yet. The previews looked really good but, I wondered...lol. Great job.
