Movie Review: Batman Begins (2005)

I was turned off by all the hype for this movie right away. But long after it was out for rent and others convinced me, I decided to give it a shot. I thought, maybe someone's finally made a decent Batman film. I was wrong.

The acting is flat, the plot dull. Batman always speaks in monotone and his girlfriend is the ultimate drip.

We begin with Batman in some snowy mountains where he learns his martial arts. Hm. I never knew Batman was a Ninja, but at least Jet Li and Jackie Chan weren't training him.

The action may have been cool. But how would I know? All the scenes were so dark you could hardly see what was going on. The dark color pallette works to bore you, but they hardly needed that with the convoluted plot and boring characters.

Are we actually supposed to be afraid of this scarecrow villian? He's not only a weakling, but appears to be wearing lipstick?

Michael Caine oozes his usual charm, but Tom Wilkinson is the only one who really shines, appearing with a convincing italian accent.

One of the most overated movies I have ever seen. I'm not sure I'd give it half a star, despite what the box office says.
