I have to start this off by saying I do not like Dane Cook, I know the comebacks can start but I really do not like his style of comedy. I know people out there are going to not like the fact that I am reviewing a comedian's work when I don't even like him but hey, it's only my opinion.
Dane Cook starts off pretty good with some decent jokes and several times during his show I did laugh out loud and have fun but other times it was just the opposite. I don't really like when a comedian uses shock factor in his routine just to sell CD's or DVD's and it does seem like Dane is doing just that.
At one point he's joking about something and the next he's describing a sexual interlude and describing his anatomy which is not funny at all. My son on the other hand just loves his style of comedy and this even put him off of the DVD which was just not what I had expected.
My son enjoys Dane Cook but he said this album just did not thrill him at all and he said he did not want to keep the DVD which is surprising as he has bought other Dane Cook CD's. The rest of the routine was not bad but I really did not enjoy it all that much but there are some funny jokes strewn throughout his act.
One observation that really does show that Dane does have a genuine heart is his number about keeping his mom's number on his cell phone after she had passed away. He does this in such a way that anyone can relate and sympathize with his rather tragic recent past and this was a definite highpoint of the show.
This is yet another Comedy Central release of a comic your either going to love or hate, there are no two ways about it. If your already a fan or have not seen him you may like Isolated Incident but if you really do not like him your probably not going to like this DVD release.
Isolated Incident also includes some additional content in the 30 Premeditated Acts routine and an interview with Dane Cook. The 30 Acts is an hour long set of explanations about some of the jokes which is actually a great inside look at comedy and how he comes up with the material.
The interview is another interesting look at Dane but not really much of a repeat viewing while the other maybe viewed a few times to catch the finer points of some of his work. Isolated Incident is a pretty hit and miss comedy release and one where fans will probably love it while others will probably want to leave it alone.
The show was filmed at the Laugh Factory in Hollywood in front of a couple of hundred probably diehard fans so there is an intimate feel to the routine. The video and audio is also a bit low key and not very good quality but it does have that beginning comic feeling that comes from seeing some early viewings of up and coming stars.
Dane Cook: Isolated Incident is a very mixed bag for me and I am sure I will hear from others just like from my review of Nick Swardson. If you like Dane Cook chances are you may enjoy Isolated Incident, watch at your own peril and do take note of the Not Rated rating as it truly is no holds barred comedy.

Post a CommentI like how Dane doesnt seem to be straining to be humorous. I really liked this DVD and thought it was funny and really great. I agree that it's definitely a love or a hate for this but I love it and hope others will give it the benefit of the doubt and check it out!
Dane Cook happens to be one of my favorite comedians. He never lets me down, and makes me laugh over and over again, even if I've heard the same joke a thousand times on his tv specials, cds, or dvds. I own this DVD and, absolutely find it hilarious. It made a great gift for me! Everyone I've shown it to quotes it over and over, and they can't do it as good as DANE himself, but just remembering Dane doing the joke brings back the laughter. Dane impresses me every time I see him perform, even in those that have transitioned to film. I was unsure he could do it as an actor, but he's done far better than I ever expected. Check out My Best Friend's girl with Kate Hudson. That's my favorite of his movies. He is also in Employee of the Month with Jessica Simpson, and Good Luck Chuck with Jessica Alba as well. Be sure to share his dvds/movies with your friends.
