Movie Review of Dead Silence

Synopsis: A married couple receives a mysterious package with a ventriloquist dummy inside. When the husband leaves to buy dinner, the wife is murdered and the husband becomes the primary suspect. Seeking to prove his innocence and find the truth, he returns to his hometown of Ravens Fair to learn more about Mary Shaw; the deceased ventriloquist the dummy belonged to.

Who's in it? Ryan Kwanten, Judith Roberts and Donnie Wahlberg.

What I liked about this movie: I watch a lot of horror films and have found there are a couple things that will always give me chills. One of them is bugs. The other is toys that move (and murder) on their own. And, I'm going to be honest with you, even if that doll did absolutely nothing; it was creepy enough to make me want them to put it away.

While not as scary as some other horror films I've seen, the movie does keep your attention. This is because it has a pretty decent mystery to it. Yes, it was pretty obvious the killer was the doll and the deceased Mary Shaw. But, it was also obvious that there was more to the story. Who sent him the doll? What was Shaw's motive for killing his wife? I pretty much figured the step mom was somehow involved but the movie does a good job of keeping her role (and the truth about his dad) a secret until the very end.

What I didn't like about this movie: Maybe I missed this (it was pretty late at night and my eyes admittedly closed during some parts) but I don't think the movie ever properly explained why the room would go silent whenever someone was about to die. It seemed like a pretty big deal considering the title of the movie was based on it.

Final Opinion: As I mentioned before, it wasn't the scariest movie I've seen but it was pretty decent and worth watching if you get a chance.

My Grade: 4 stars out of a possible 5.
