Movie Review: Enchanted

Imagine a fairy tail princess and prince finding themselves in the middle of Times Square in New York City. Does magic really happen in today's world?

The movie Enchanted hopes to answer this question, which I recently saw with my girlfriend.

The film reminded me of the Shrek series where fairy tale characters collide with modern times.

Princess Gisselle, played by Amy Adams, is banished from her magical world by an evil witch and finds herself in the middle of Times Square in New York City.

Luckily, Robert Philip, a divorce attorney, played by Patrick Dempsey, and his 6-year-old daughter, Morgan Philip, played by Rachel Covey, rescue Gisselle from homelessness.

Will Gisselle be able to get back to her magic world so that Prince Edward, played by James Marsden, will rescue her? Or will she fall in love with Robert, who already has a long-time girlfriend, Angie, played by Samantha Ivers, whom he has commitment issues with?

Perhaps the most interesting part of the movie is how Gisselle adapts and does not adapt to New York City and if you see the movie you will soon discover whether Gisselle holds onto her innocence or whether a large city has the power to take that away.

There are several musical numbers in the film and some are quite comical which involve numerous characters breaking out in song and dance.

Nathaniel, played by Timothy Spall, and a cute chipmunk named Pip, also seek to find Gisselle in New York, each with his own reasons.

Will this movie have a happy ending or will it never be happily ever after for Gisselle? You will have to go see the movie for those answers.

While this is a Disney movie, I don't recommend bringing young kids to see the movie since it has a complex storyline and is not for the generation who is only amused by animated movies since only small portions of the movie are animated.

Scary images and mild innuendo resulted in the movie receiving a PG rating.

However, the movie will be enjoyed by other age groups because of its unique combination of several genres including musical, adventure, comedy, and romance.

Actresses who provided voices for three previous animated Disney princesses make appearances in this film.

These include Jodi Bensen, who played Ariel in the 1989 film The Little Mermaid, Paige O'Hara, who played Belle in the 1991 film Beauty and the Beast, and Judy Kuhn who starred in the 1995 film Pocahontas.

Don't forget to stick around at the end of the movie for several animated characters making their way on the screen during the credits.

In all, I thought it was a pretty good movie.

The movie was released on the big screen on Nov. 21, 2007 and is approximately 107 minutes.
