Movie Review of My Favorite Classic Movie

"The Pursuit of Happyness", spelled with a "y" not an "i", is a classic movie written by Steve Conrad directed by Gabriele Muccino. Inspiring, funny and entertaining, it is one of the few movies that can draw me in, make me cry and make me laugh every time I watch it.

To sum it up: Chris Gardner played by Will Smith is a struggling salesman with good values, but a bad business investment, back taxes, rent, parking tickets, childcare, and bills keep him constantly stressed for money. His wife leaves him and Chris is left to take care of his son Christopher while living in and out of shelters, sometimes in public bathrooms. Through persistence and hard work Chris Gardner becomes a stockbroker.

A good movie to me has a good storyline, entertaining dialogue, a hint of sarcasm, interesting scenes, and great actors. "The Pursuit of Happyness" has all of these good qualities. There were many greats scenes in this move. The dialogue was humorous and engaging. The actors were believable. Will Smith played a great Chris Gardner. This is how I followed along throughout the move:

When Chris cried on the bathroom floor holding his son for the rest of the night I cried with him. When Chris found out the Internship he worked so hard to get didn't pay, I panicked with him as he worried how he would feed his son. When the cab driver hit Chris with the car and the cab driver pops out of the car, but doesn't just ask Chris if he's okay, he yells at him if he's okay with a few curse words to follow I can't help but laugh. When his wife left Chris and his son Christopher she left me too. When Christopher asks Chris how to spell a curse word and Chris has to explain to his son what the curse word means and why his son shouldn't use it I laugh a lot because I can definitely relate to this. I have curious kids of my own. When Chris was chosen at the brokerage firm then walked outside and began to clap I felt that pride and sense of relief that engulfed Chris's face. I was ecstatic for him, his son and felt hopeful for their future.

Every scene captured me and drew me in just like a good movie should. I believed in what was happening in the movie and I invested in it. The first time I watched this movie I watched it in the movie theater with my husband and for the first time in a long time I didn't regret paying the expensive movie tickets prices. This movie was worth it.
