The idea is so very relevant to todays topics, I think this movie should be watched by more people just for that reason alone. It is interesting, that even years later (not to mention the original film from the 50's!), the whole idea of teleportation and - more strongly - gene splicing is still relevant to todays science and technology. That being the case, the film hardly feels dated save for the clothing and awesome 80's hair.
Even now the special effects are amazing and Jeff Goldblum does a wonderful job. It's no wonder this was what really launched his career, but it's a shame he wasn't recognized for it with an oscar. His quirkiness makes for a great recluse scientist, cute romantic, and very good fly-man! Seth Brundle is quite a challenging character, showing several emotions, but Jeff always makes it believable.
Geena Davis stars along side him and they make a great couple.
