Well, last night we got to take one of our rare trips to the movie theater to see Immortals. If you haven't seen Immortals here is the description from IMDB:
Theseus is a mortal man chosen by Zeus to lead the fight against the ruthless King Hyperion, who is on a rampage across Greece to obtain a weapon that can destroy humanity.
Now on with the review! I saw the trailer for this movie and it looked awesome. Our family doesn't go to the movies very often and I decided that Immortals was one of the movies that I wanted to go see in the theater.
Things I didn't like:
Mostly, I wanted to see it because I'm a mythology lover and got all excited when I saw the previews. But, sadly, Immortals was more than a little off with their mythology, so I was disappointed in that. It was like when you go to see a movie after you have already read the book and nothing is the same except the characters.
I really expected more "magic stuff" is how I put it to my husband. I guess this wasn't a big deal, but it was surprising. The bow was about the only thing that came close and Theseus only had the bow for about five seconds. The bow, by the way, isn't mentioned in the myths. Theseus did have a sword which was buried beneath a boulder, but that is as close as it comes.
The gods in this movie were beautifully costumed and wonderful actors, but really, Athena is the goddess of wisdom and strategy of war and there is no way that she would be killed by even a Titan. Nope.
Things I liked:
Really, Immortals was a pretty good movie. There is a LOT of killing and blood. It's a pretty gory movie when it comes to that, but that part of it didn't really bother me, even though I had to cover my eyes several times in expectation. Just watch this before you let your kids watch it.
The story was good, even if it didn't go with the myths, it made a great story about war and a peasant who rises to lead his people. Everyone loves an epic story.
And, I'm a girl, so I appreciated the male hotness displayed in this movie. Sorry guys!
All in All, I liked it. Immortals, was not at all a bad movie and I do recommend it for anyone who likes these kind of movies. If you liked the movie 300, then you will like this one.
