The basic premise involves Danny (Adam Sandler), a successful plastic surgeon who pretends to be married to pick up women without the risk of having to commit to them. He does this with relative success until he meets the gorgeous and very youthful Palmer (Brooklyn Decker) . When she discovers his "fake" wedding ring, he does the obvious - lie. Danny enlists his dedicated assistant Katherine (Jennifer Aniston) and her adorable children (Bailee Madison and Griffin Gluck) in keeping the lie together.
The overall setup is a familiar one. The guy or girl lies to their intended to keep them with help from friends and somehow the lie snowballs almost out of control and they find their true love in the end, usually the person who was their all along. This tale isn't much different except for its array of characters and comedic nuances. The plot is very similar to the comedic gem Cactus Flower (1969), which may upset many film traditionalists. While this writer is not usually a fan of remakes, its important to note there are several plot variances which could easily make this a separate film all together. If you are one of those traditionalists, you will need to go with the old adage that there are no new ideas and look at Just Go With It as a stand alone that is entertaining in its own right.
Sandler is always a pleasure in the role as leading man with a heart of gold and witty retort as opposed to his extremely goofy characters in films like Don't Mess with the Zohan. Sandler is very much complimented in this movie by the equally funny and endearing cast. Aniston shines as usual with her endearing vulnerability and understated comedic timing. The young actors chosen to play Aniston's children do not appear to be your basic precocious kid character but in fact at some points almost steal scenes from their seasoned cast mates. While Nick Swardson does well as Sandler's comedic wingman, at times his performance does seem a bit over the top. With cameos from various stars like Nicole Kidman, Dave Matthews, and Kevin Nealon the talent chosen for this film was wide ranging. It is rare that this writer finds a film with little to critique, but this is one of those moments. Just Go With It is definitely a movie I suggest you see while still in the theater.
