Movie Review of Knocked Up

Tonya
Knocked Up is writer/director Judd Apatow's second feature. Apatow followed his same formula that made his first film, The 40 Year Old Virgin, such a success. The humor is genuinely funny with many laugh-out-loud moments and almost nonstop chuckles. Knocked Up is bound to be one of the summer's best hits.

Knocked up begins by introducing the characters and their lives. We have an ambitious Alison Scott (Katherine Heigl) going out to celebrate her new promotion and Ben Stone (Seth Rogen) out partying at the night club because that's just him. With plenty of alcohol, the two strangers get together for what should be a one night stand. Weeks later Alison discovers she is pregnant. For Ben, an underemployed stoner, the news is a less than ideal shocker. For Alison, the pregnancy becomes an impediment to her career.

To counter balance the trying-to-get-to-know-one-another-and-make-it-work story, we have Alison's older sister, Debbie (Leslie Mann), and her husband Pete (Paul Rudd) trying to make their marriage work. Their marriage is failing as Pete becomes more and more disconnected and Debbie gets more controlling. Also, on Ben's side, we have his slacker friends who end up creating more than a few of the belly aches caused by laughing.

All in all, Knocked Up is just as much a romance as it is a comedy. As a woman, I found the two trying to make it work despite being thrown into the situation and not having many common interests very touching. Alison and Ben would much be able to fall in love if they could just get over the hang ups each of them have.

What I liked about the movie was how it was delivered. Each character has a story to follow to see them develop. The story moves smoothly and they develop without an out of the nowhere change of character. Almost all of the jokes are delivered perfectly and in great timing with incredibly sharp dialogue.

Knocked Up was cast perfectly. Both Katherine Heigl and Seth Rogan are attractive, likeable, and energetic enough to pull off the kind of comedy that this movie offered. This movie was a great laugh after a long day at work. I have recommended it to all of my friends that I guarantee will have a great night laughing at this hilarious movie. Go see Knocked Up, it will be anything but a dull and joyless experience.

I still haven't seen this - but I definitely want to. I am a hopeless romantic comedy fan. Thanks for the great review.

At first I didn't think I would like this movie. However, that changed! I love it too and plan on buying a used copy. Also, I like the fact they picked a guy whom would not be considered not very good looking. Sometimes in Hollywood, their actors and characters don't always match up.
