Movie Review: Let's Scare Jessica to Death

I had read the small micro review on Blockbuster.com about a flick called Let's Scare Jessica To Death. After reading it, I found it would be something I may want to see, so I added it to my que. Sadly the movie status was set at 'Very Long Wait' for nearly 6 months. I assumed this meant the movie was good!

Finally one sweet day Let's Scare Jessica To Death arrived. I popped the disc into my player and let er' rip.

The movie started off a wee bit confusing. There are 3 people at a graveyard. They arrived in a hearse. Either they work for the graveyard, or they are just weird hippies with a hearse. Turned out they were just weird hippies with a hearse. Jessica likes taking grave sketch's, and this is where the movie begins. It is also where you begin to realize that Jessica may be fresh out of the loony bin.

Anyhow, the 3, (Jessica, Duncan, and Woody) are headed to a new house in a very isolated area. In order to get to the home, they have to board their hearse onto a small ferry to take them over to the small town in which their new home is located. It was apparent that the small group of townsfolk that saw them come in, were not excited about their arrival.

I was not able to figure out quite yet which guy Jessica was married to. I found it strange that they would have a second male moving in with them, without first going over who was Jessica's husband. It was about 15 minutes into the film, that I was finally able to figure out which guy she was with.

Anyways, the 3 enter their new home, which is a large old crickety Victorian. As they begin to bring in some boxes, they notice that someone was occupying the home. A woman by the name of Emily had been living in the home for a bit, she explained to them that she thought the place was vacant. As she is about to leave though, the 3 decide that she can stay.

I found that funny, I guess folks were more welcoming to strangers in the 70's. Nowadays a bum in your new home wouldn't roll.

Emily makes herself comfy, and Jessica begins to grow paranoid. She thinks her husband likes Emily, she begins to hear Emily's voice in her head, and what she is hearing, you wonder if it is actually Emily, or if Jessica is just going nuts again.

As the movie progresses Jessica becomes more insane. She has episodes where she is with Emily, and suddenly Emily vanishes, only to reappear again in an evil sinister manner.

I don't know about you, but I would of thrown the chick out the moment I started hearing her voice in my head. Nope though, they tell her to stay, and that she is welcome. Due to Jessica's past history with (I believe is mental illness) her own husband questions her sanity, and does not believe 99% of what Jessica has to say. I found that disturbing....but whatever.

By the end of the movie, I was actually beginning to grow bored. I was not sure if Jessica was mental, or if Emily was the vampire Jessica was imagining her to be.

I won't blow the ending, but I will say this; my question was never answered, and I was disappointing not knowing what was truly going on. It was very open ended, and seemed like it needed a part 2.

Don't get me wrong, Let's Scare Jessica To Death was a creepy movie, and had a very creepy vibe all throughout the flick...however it ended on that whole dot, dot, dot note, which was frustrating to me.

Overall:

Let's Scare Jessica To Death was just mediocre for me. It had some creepy parts which were really good...but the ending sort of dragged things out, and made things very boring and repetitive.

I still however would recommend a rent. It's not awful, it's just not excellent. Plus it's a classic, so you have to appreciate it for that, I suppose.
