Movie Review: The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou

Bridget Ilene Delaney
If you are looking for a good mockmentary, you will want to pass Wes Anderson's The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou . I recorded the movie on our DVR the other day. We had a single reason that we wanted to watch the movie. We figured out that we should watch it to understand the origin of the name of a band that I interviewed.

We watched the movie until we got to a part where we understood the trivia. We watched just a tiny bit more afterwards, but it was extremely boring. We did get that Billy Murray played an eccentric and a possibly crazy Steve Zissou.

We did not watch much of the movie. At times we stopped to get the general idea of what had happened.

We knew that Owen Wilson played Ned Plimpton, who thought he was Steve's son. We understood that he flew the helicopter and died when it crashed.

We understood that Klaus was jealous as he thought of Steve as a father.

We understood that the "jaguar shark" was not killed because Steve did not have dynamite and then was in awe of its beauty.

I found out from reviews of the movie that Steve's ship was attacked by pirates and that he was sterile, so Ned couldn't have been his son.

The best part of the movie The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou is that Wes Anderson put in many crazy species of animals.

From the beginning there is a jaguar shark. There's also a crayon pony fish. We saw him use the rhinestone blowfish as bait. We also saw the sugar crabs come out on the beach.

While attracting the jaguar shark, we saw angel fish with halos and wings. We also saw hummingbird fish.

However, we missed the backlip frogs. If there were other species, we missed those, too. However, we did find the original trivia. In fact, we found it two more times.

However, the movie is boring and it is not worth your time to watch it.
