Movie Review: The Lost Boys, an Eighties Movie Worth Seeing Again

The 1987 Cult Classic Vampire Film Stars a Young Keifer Sutherland and Other 80's Heartthrobs

The eighties just were not a good decade for movies with the cheesy dialog and soundtrack, but to those who grew up in the 1980's, The Lost Boys is a cult classic.

The movie begins with a single mom and her two sons relocating to a small town in California. It is not long before younger son, Sam (Corey Haim), realizes all is not well in their new town. The older of the two, Michael (Jason Patric), somehow mistakes a glass of blood for wine and drinks from it. He begins a transformation into a vampire as Sam and his new friends make plans to fight the tough kids, aka the vampires.

Both Coreys, Corey Haim and Corey Feldman starred in The Lost Boys, which made this movie a big draw with Tiger Beat and BOP readers. Between the heartthrobs and the hair-dos, this 80's movie barely needs to have plot, but it manages to get in all of the cliches about vampires. There is dinner with garlic, holy water and wood stakes to protect the living from the undead. Some campy humor later and the final showdown between the head vampire and the heroes makes us feel better about leaving the house after dark.

Purchase a DVD version of The Lost Boys at Amazon.com, Buy.com, Overstock.com or Alibris.com to relive the vampire glory of 1987.

  • "There's one thing about living in Santa Carla I never could stomach - all the damn vampires."
Before Keifer Sutherland starred as Jack Bauer in Lost, he was a vampire named David in The Lost Boys.
