Movie Review: Paranormal Activity

Deborah Woehr
A friend of mine told me why she was disappointed with Paranormal Activity. Her reasons had to do with common sense. If some invisible thing pulled you out of bed in the middle of the night and dragged you down the hall, would you want to go back to that bed? No normal, sane person would.

This brings me to why I was disappointed with Paranormal Activity. I'm not sure what to believe in regards to the existence of demons. While I've had friends confess to me that they've experienced demonic visitations, I wonder if the demons are a product of the person's mind and how they feel about their current situation and/or life.

As far as the movie was concerned, the format mirrored The Blair Witch Project. I found it more annoying than scary. Micah lived in a nice house in San Diego. That meant that he had the money to install a security system to monitor every room in the house. Instead, he shoved a video camera in front of his girlfriend's face at every chance he could. Is it any wonder why the movie ended the way it did?

The "haunting" elements looked totally staged. I found it too convenient that the video recording would stop, and then start again right when the noises started occurring.

I'm glad that I didn't waste the money by going to the movie theater because Paranormal Activity isn't worth the price. If you enjoy watching spoofs, you may be entertained. Otherwise, I wouldn't bother.
