Movie Review: Remember the Titans

One of the best movies of all time, in my opinion, is Remember the Titans. Denzel Washington plays the role of a football coach that has been hired to coach one of the first black-white schools in the area. Washington, who's name is Coach Boone in the movie, has to face racial prejudice while working with the new coaching staff. Some of the white coaches don't accept a Negro being Head coach. Its tough on Coach Boone but everything falls into place.

Another issue in the movie is with the players. The players are both black and white and are not used to playing on a mixed team. You have the typical racial rivalry in addition to the competitive nature that young men already have while playing the game of football. It's up to Coach Boone and the rest of the coaching staff to train these kids to accept each other's differences and win football games against all odds.

The more the team plays together, the better they get to know each other. They start to learn that its not about their race or the game of football, its about everyone being human, under God, everyone is human. They are all the same no matter the color of their skin. It's up to them to stay together as a team in order to win games. This is portrayed in an amazing manner as the Titans face prejudice from other teams. They hold their own and win big.

On a scale from one to ten, this movie clearly receives a ten. It doesn't have fancy special effects or animations, but the message itself is strong enough to make you, the audience, come together and feel what those players were feeling. To go through what they were going through and experience the game of football at a high school level as the first mixed black and white team.

Why do I think the message is so important? Well, honestly, racial issues are always a problem here in the United States. It does not matter what race you are, you will go through discrimination at least once, if you don't go through it first hand, you will know someone that did. This movie shows you what it feels like to be discriminated against and still overcome the odds that are placed upon us. These players did not give up, the coaches did not give up, and their vision came true at the end of the season when they were undefeated. How beautiful it is to see this happen all because of a simple game. Football brought these races together and its amazing to experience through this movie.

That my friend is my review on Remember the Titans. I recommend you rent/buy the movie and watch it for yourself!
