Movie Review: Robin Hood

Huh? What? Oh, sorry, I'd forgotten I'd seen this movie. It's lackluster scripting must have fallen into the deep crevices of my untapped memory. However, I will dig deep to find the review you so anticipate. There must have been something memorable about it, right? Right?

If it's "the true story of Robin Hood" you're looking for, search elsewhere. While many of us were led to believe that this film would follow the both famous and infamous Robin of Loxely, we were all sadly mistaken.

No, this is the story about a guy who pretends to be Robin of Loxley. Why? Because the man Russell Crowe portrays is running from the King and needs cover. Yeah, pretty weak baseline if you ask me.

You see, through a twist of fate, the real Robin of Loxley dies and Russell Crowe delivers the message to his family. However, his sickly-looking, very sweet, and slightly crazy father's poor heart just can't take reality and asks Crowe if he would pose as his son (the real Robin of Loxley) for the time being. He is eventually found out, falls in love with Cate Blanchett, and saves the town, yadda, yadda, yadda.

The storyline is predictable and it lack that little extra "oomph!" While I did, overall, enjoy Robin Hood, something about it left me less than thrilled that I had paid to see it in theaters. To me, it did not stand up to Braveheart or The Patriot.

Perhaps what it's lacking is Mel Gibson. Or maybe I've been too into Lost to believe that Kevin Durand is Little John.

Final conclusion: 2 out of 5 stars; "If this sounds like your kind of movie, wait for the rental."
