Movie Review: The Social Network

When my girlfriend first mentioned to me that we should go see this movie, I was only mildly interested in the founder of Facebook, and how it got its start on the Internet. However, my attitude changed drastically after watching it; the Facebook history is indeed a rich one. I was thoroughly impressed with the film.

Jesse Eisenberg plays genius college student Mark Zuckerberg, a kid who would desperately like to make a name for himself but isn't quite sure how. Once he gets an opportunity to create an on-campus social network for Harvard, he essentially stole the idea and ran with it, creating the Facebook we all know and love today. Of course, that resulted in a hefty law suit and other troubles, but I'll let the movie take care of those details.

Justin Timberlake actually did a stellar job playing the eccentric inventor of Napster, Sean Parker. In my opinion, he gave a wonderful performance and was very believable the entire show. My girlfriend knows more about the actual Sean Parker than I do, but she said Justin played him to a tee in The Social Network. Although I am not necessarily a fan of Timberlake's old band, I sure do like watching him on the big screen. He does great work consistently.

The movie really does a good job of making the beginnings of Facebook seem very interesting, and the movie was pretty funny to boot. There was even a Karate Kid reference that was absolutely hilarious. My girlfriend and I noted that we were the only ones laughing in the theater. I guess it was before most of the viewer's time. In short, this author thought the movie was extremely interesting and very well put together. The acting was top-notch and the story is absolutely unbelievable, especially since it's true. I would put The Social Network on the top of my go-see list, and that goes double for you Facebook addicts out there. Its inception really is a cool story.
