I realize that director Joe Wright stars Robert Downing Jr and Jamie Fox did a great job. Y'all can see the trailer etc @ http://www.soloistmovie.com/ I was a bit misled by the TV commercials. I felt we were in store for a story about a street musician that was uplifted by a Los Angeles Times reporter. I was wrong but I was open minded enough to listen and learn.
The story was based on the book "The Soloist" written by the real Steve Lopez.. The story isn't just about one homeless musician. The story line is Steve Lopez (Played by Robert Downey Jr) finds a homeless but very talented musician and tries to help him. Nathan Ayers (Played by Jamie Fox) also suffers from schizophrenia. After many attempts to bring Nathan Ayers back into the main stream music world Steve Lopez realizes he can not. Steve Lopez is lead to becoming a friend and mentor in a different manner. Steve Lopez acceptance of Nathan Ayers as he truly was and giving the commitment of friendship brings hope to my heart.
The music was excellent but a bit haunting. The acting was special. The story was uplifting and yet mentally stimulating. This was one of those films that I left the theater feeling good and perhaps a bit challenged. My Challenge as I saw it was to become a bit more accepting of folks just as they are today. Folks don't have to live in the manner I feel is correct...only I have to do that.
My eyes are a bit more open re: the homeless. According to the trailer there are 90,000 in Las Angeles alone. Not everyone wants to live like this or wants to live like I do. Each has his or her own story. To force my beliefs on any person is wrong.... To put strings on any gift is wrong. It's kinda like telling a friend his fly is open is a long way from reaching out and pulling his zipper up for him.... Mizpah ;-}}>

Nice review.
Nice review.
Thank you so much for reviewing this movie. I really want to see it too. Sounds like we should have an AC viewing party.
Great review, Alban. I wanted to see this movie until Fox's tirade against Miley Cyrus recently. What he said turned me so far off of him that you couldn't pay me enough money to see any movie of his. It was that cruel! I admit, however, that he is one heck of an actor.
