What if you had the chance to find out who the terrorist bomber was but could change what happens even when those in charge say you cannot change anything, would you make the attempt even if you may change the future?

Jake Gyllenhaal plays Colter Stevens, a soldier who is replaying the same eight minutes of a time loop to try to figure out who set off a bomb onboard a commuter train. Colter finds out more than he may have wanted to know and in the end uses the ability to replay the last events of life to rewrite his own future.

The military discovers a way to inject someone to relive the last eight minutes of another person's life, you can even do things the other never did. The military uses a volunteer to try to find out who placed and possibly set off a bomb on a commuter train but they don't tell him everything.

After several attempts to find out more about the bombing Colter also tries to find out more about his own situation because he is not getting answers to his questions. Colter wakes from each attempt in a chamber and communicates through cameras and monitors with the military and civilian doctor running the program.

The military person he talks with the most, Goodwin is a female officer who takes a liking to Colter while Dr. Rutledge is the creater of the Source Code program. Goodwin helps Colter find out that he has been killed in action but his body and brain are being kept alive to participate in the program.

Colter winds up not only finding out about the bombing but also that things inside the source code can have a lasting impact on the fabric of space and time. Colter stops the bombing in the time loop while Goodwin stops the life support to his body that has been blown apart in combat and kept on life support.

When the life support is stopped while Colter is still in the time loop a new alternate timeline has been created and Colter winds up saving the people on the train. Colter, now inhabiting the body of a train passenger lives the rest of his life as this alternate person but he also sends an email to the alternate Goodwin.

Source Code is a great film and one that does truly surprise and delight in more ways than one, I found this a good movie that really did surprise me. Source Code is one of those modern films where everything did work well and came out as a good movie.

Video and audio for Source Code was very good, easily as good as I expect from a quality Blu-ray transfer and DTS Master Audio track. The video is clear and looks very good with well-done darks, especially inside the chamber where we see Colter often.

Source Code reminds me of several films including those classics where as much attention has been paid to technical filming as the films main theme. Audio is not quite as good as video with a great sound track but with less use of surround than I would have liked.

Bonus content for Source Code is not as well filled out with only two bonus features with a more common audio commentary as well as the picture in picture feature. The audio commentary is very standard while the picture in picture feature adds the usual making of and other features you often get in bonus content features.

Extras are decent but nothing above average so the film does get a bit of a down grade for the bonus content but overall I highly recommend this as a purchase at the least. Source Code is well worth a purchase and makes a good addition to an action film collection but would at the least be worthwhile as a rental.
