Movie Review: Toy Story 3

The plot of the movie follows Andy's toys; Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Potato Head, and Piggy (as well as the other favorites such as Jesse, Slinky, and Rex). In this movie Andy has turned 17 and is on his way to college. Andy's mom has tasked him with going through his toys and placing the ones that he wants to take to college is a special box and the other toys in a bag to go to the attack. Woody gets selected to with Andy to college while the other toys get placed in a bag to go to the attack.

Well the toys get confused and believe that they are going out to the trash and escape the trash bag (with the help of Woody). Andy's mom then believes Andy wanted to donate the toys to the Sunny Side day care center. The toys quickly find out that the day care center toys are run by an evil stuffed bear (voiced by Ned Betty). The bear orders the other toys to place Woody, Buzz and the rest of Andy's toys in with young children that 'mis-handle' all of Andy's toys. The toys try to escape the day care center only to find out that it is run like a concentration camp, with guards, video surveillance, walls, search lights, etc.

The toys do escape with the help of Woody and Buzz but end up in a trash bin on the way to the dump. They have to survive the recycler, sorter and finally look as though they are going to be burned in the incinerator when they are saved by 'the claw' and the alien toys. They then notice the dump truck that picks up the trash at Andy's house and hitch a ride home.

They return to Andy's home and still have the dilemma to solve that Woody is going off to college, while the rest of the toys are going to the attic never to be played with. Woody then jumps out of his box and writes a post it note on the box of his friends about to go into the attic. Andy reads the note and brings his toys to donate them to a young girl that places nicely with her toys and is age appropriate. It is a very touching scene when Andy discovers that Woody is at the bottom of that box and doesn't want to give him up. But he does. Andy then places with the girl the whole afternoon and leaves his toys for her. All of the toys are sad to see Andy go, put they are happy to be together and to be played with.

There are some very funny scenes. Buzz gets his reset switch held down too long and ends up in Spanish mode. This not only changes his speech to Spanish, but turns him into a romantic Spanish soap opera star. Also the evil monkey that watches the video screens at the day care is a riot.

My wife and I watched the movie with our 7 year old daughter and our 2 fourteen year old daughters. None of us had anything bad to say about it. The teenagers loved it and so did we. Another Pixar must see for the whole family.
