Movie Reviews: Flywheel, Facing the Giants and Fireproof

Three Great Family Movies -- All Readily Available on DVD

R.C. Johnson
Three outstanding family movies and all by the same production company! If Christian families do not have these DVDs in their personal collection, I am writing this article to encourage them to go online, read the reviews, and then to consider buying at least one or the set of all three which is available from amazon.com at a special combination price.

Movie #1, Flywheel

"Flywheel" was the first movie produced by the Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany, Georgia. A movie produced with a low budget (about $25,000), having modest initial distribution, using volunteer actors and helpers, and based on a Christian theme - who would have thought that these elements would be the basis for a classic movie that both Christians and non-Christians can appreciate and enjoy?

Don't let the modest production budget for "Flywheel" lull you into thinking this movie is second rate. It isn't!

The cover on the DVD says that "In every man's life there's a turning point." That is enough said about the movie as far as I'm concerned! You'll discover that the plot has plenty of surprises to hold your interest, and you will simply feel good after the movie is over.

Movie #2, Facing the Giants

If you missed the movie "Facing the Giants" in the theater, you can purchase the DVD and have a first-rate theater experience in your own home that will have you cheering, possibly tearing up at times, but always recognizing the need for perseverance in order to win.

The front cover of this movie says: "Never give up. Never back down. Never lose faith." Wow! If a person can't get excited about those themes, he or she needs more of a jump start than a movie is capable of producing.

Movie #3, Fireproof

Kirk Cameron is the star of the movie "Fireproof" which is the most professionally-produced movie of the three. The words on the front cover of this DVD are: "Never leave your partner behind." Husbands and wives will especially benefit from this story.

My fellow Associated Content contributor Jack Wellman wrote an article on "How to Fireproof Your Marriage" in which he referenced this movie. You can also read excellent reviews on the amazon.com website.

The amazon.com exclusive price offer for a three-pack purchase

If you don't own any of these movies, this combination price offer with free shipping from amazon.com is worthy of consideration for any family wishing to own their own DVDs or for a gift idea. Of course, the DVDs are also for sale on an individual basis, and can also be purchased through many other good sources.I give a huge thumbs-up to these movies! My plea to the Sherwood Baptist Church: I want more, more, more!!!!

Loved "Fireproof" and "Facing", but never heard of "Flywheel"... wonder what it's about - kind of a vague name.

    Good job teammate!

  • Pattie Byrd1/9/2010

    Sounds like good ideas.

How interesting, I thought Giants was the first and have never heard of Flywheel. I have the other two. Thanks :)

My advice: start with Facing the Giants! This is a don't miss movie that is great for the whole family to see, and children will relate to the challenges shown. Fireproof more adult-themed but good for all the family; Flywheel fits all age groups.

Thanks. I'd wondered if Fireproof was any good. The other 2 titles are new to me also. These all sound like they are worth looking into.

R.C. You're spot on with this friend. I have not seen the first you mentioned, but Fireproof and Facing the Giants is a must see for all families and couples, married or not. Excellent review, as usual, for you. You have a gift for seeing what is really important and what is valued above all in this culture of ours. Why am I not surprised friend. Because you have been gifted above many here at AC, including me, to lift up life and reveal that there is more to life than meets the eye. Blessings friend. Great article and review again! : - )
