Movie Star Turtles: The Rarest Ninja Turtles Toys

Most Expensive TMNT Toys on EBay

According to many Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fans, the Movie Star Turtles line by www.playmatestoys.com, is by far the rarest TMNT action figures available in very few select online stores. At www.eBay.com, you can find them at pretty steep prices ranging from 30-60 dollars depending on which Ninja Turtle you buy since Leonardo is the rarest. This particular line of action figures has been reissued by Playmates at toy stores several times in the last twenty years due to their popularity among children and collectors. The details on these action figures are quite amazing for their time because most of them during the 80s and 90s did not possess the rubbery material they are made of. The Movie Star Turtles were also known to have pores on their skin to give them a more realistic look just like their movie counterparts. These figures look almost identical to the Ninja Turtles from the first movie, not the second because the facial molds resemble the costumes Jim Henson originally designed back in 1989.

The carding on these illusive Ninja Turtles figures was very unique since they were the only ones that had picture stills from the movie on both the front and back of the cards. Movie Star Raphael had the fanciest card because it had a picture of all four of them doing fighting pose from the movie. I use to own these action figures as a child and all I can tell you was that they were amazing compared to the very first ones I owned. The original TMNT action figures that were released in 1988 were pretty awesome, but they were definitely not as detailed as the Movie Star Turtles. According to www.wizarduniverse.com, Toyfare magazine revealed that these toys were to be released once again as exclusives at Toys R Us. I am somewhat against that idea because it will prevent other stores like Target or Wal-Mart from selling these figures cheap even though they may retail at eight dollars apiece. Anyway, my personal favorite Movie Star Turtle was Michelangelo because it had the strongest resemblance to its movie counterpart compared to the other three turtles. The face and body was accurate due to the overall mold and it seems that Playmates took their time on him the most.
