Movie Suggestions for Kids Who Love Animals

Rianne Hill Soriano

Children's movies often feature charming animal characters whether in animation movies, live-action movies, or a combination of both. Kids' fascination with animals are typically seen in films that depict animals interacting with humans or other animals, animals acting or talking like humans, animals exploring varying adventures inside and outside the wild, and animals documented as they are in real-life. Kids who love animals can expand their DVD or Blu-ray collections through these selections:

Animation Movies

As many animation movies are geared towards the family audience, most of these animated offerings either feature an all-animal cast or animals with close relationships with humans. Kids who love animals can watch timeless classics like "Bambi," "The Jungle Book," "The Lion King," "Dumbo," "The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh," "Aristocats," and "101 Dalmatians." These memorable films provide children a look at the wonders and often more organic feel of traditional animation, which was more popularly used in the past. They can also watch more recent films that are bound to become timeless classics as well like "Finding Nemo," "Kung Fu Panda," "Ratatouille," and "How to Train Your Dragon." These computer animation pieces feature touching and often funny stories about animal characters.

Live-action Movies

Well-made talking animal films showcased in real-life settings exude that certain charm both children and adults typically find interesting. Many of them use some animation and special effects to make animals talk or move in amusing ways. Adapting the E.B. White novel, "Charlotte's Web" is an enchanting children's movie about an innocent girl's relationship with her animal friends, which includes a charming pig and a clever spider. The critically acclaimed "Babe" is a live-action farm tale about the life of a struggling pig raised by sheepdogs and how he rises to the challenge of herding sheep. "The Black Stallion" is a classic motion picture piece about a child's fascination with a mysterious Arabian stallion, the friendship that binds them, and how this stallion is bound to race against the fastest horses in the world.

Documentary Movies

Documentary films bring a real-life take on the lives of animals onto the movie screen. Unlike their fictional narrative counterparts, these offerings depict animals as they are. They focus on specific aspects of their lives in their natural habitats. Mostly falling under nature and animal documentaries, these films allow children who enjoy seeing and learning more about animals to watch memorable animal tales like those shown in "March of the Penguins," "Deep Sea," "African Cats," and "Winged Migration." These diverse choices feature touching stories about penguins, sea creatures, lions, birds, and many other wild animals.
