Movie Theater Prices

Angel Sharum
The price to see movies is outrageous these days. Between six and eight dollars to get into the movie, then the concessions will break the bank. There are three people in my immediate family. The last time we went to the movies, it cost almost fifty dollars. That's just ridiculous!

It cost us $6.50 each to get into the movie. Then all the concessions were $28.00. We bought one of their combo's that are supposed to be cheaper too! Our total for one move was $47.50. We love movies, but at these prices, we hardly ever go.

The movie has to be by a director we love, have actors that are good in everything we've seen, or be about a book that we've read before we go. It's always bad when the movie doesn't live up to our expatiations after paying so much.

I know you are paying for the ambiance and all that jazz at the theater, but it doesn't have to be so expensive. I love when a movie we want to see is on the matinee. It's at least a dollar cheaper per person. At least we save a little.

Another thing that bothers me is this. They charge all this money and then can't keep the movie theater clean. Those prices are supposed to be for upkeep costs of the theater along with buying the movies, right? Then why is there trash on the theater floor? It doesn't make any sense.

My husband hates paying high prices for movie theaters with small seats. He is six feet tall. He's not fat, but he isn't exactly small either. He likes to have moving room in his seat, and legroom in the aisle. It's very uncomfortable for him when people have to pass in front of his seat in small theaters. Maybe these theaters are charging less than bigger ones other places, but here the prices are the same.

I think an overhaul of the movie theater industry needs to happen. They need to provide better services for the prices they are charging. I'm sure it won't happen. What incentive do they have to change? They are still making a killing with each new movie that comes out. If more people would quit paying the high prices for bad theaters, maybe things would change. Until then, those of us who can't afford to go often will keep being very selective. I wonder how much money the industry is losing.

I don't mind the movie prices as much as the food and drink price.

You are absolutely right! My husband and I wait for them to come out on dvd. We either buy them or rent them and provide our own popcorn. My sons like to go, but they use their own money.

Yeah, they used to have those in GA, Tom. I don't remember the real name, but you could see a movie for a dollar. That was cool if you wanted to wait for the movies.

Great article Angel, and also very true! We have a couple of the cheap seat theatres here, but one has to wait till the movie is nearly an antique before it gets there.
