The Elko Cinema 5 is the oldest movie theater in Elko, Nevada. Still sporting paintings of Laurel and Hardy, Marilyn Monroe, Clark Gabel and Vivien Leigh on the side of the building it certainly is a sight to behold.
The old theater mainly shows only G-rated and PG-13 movies with show times at 4:00, 7:00 and 9pm daily. Saturday matinees include show times of 12:00 and 2:00. The Cinema 5 movie theater also runs specials through the school districts where a family can purchase a book of movie tickets for kids movies at 10am on Saturdays.
Located in the heart of historic downtown Elko, the Cinema 4 provides a small comfortable atmosphere for viewing family favorites.
The Elko Cinema 4 is the only other and newest movie theater in Elko, Nevada. PG-17 and R-rated movies are reserved for this movie theater with exceptions made for box office hits that are shown at both theaters simultaneously. On rare occasions every theater in both Cinemas will view the same movie at the same time. Episodes I-III of Star Wars being the only movies I know of to stop all other movies from being viewed for the span of 2-3 days.
Although the Cinema 4 only has 4 theaters, each one is slightly larger than those of the older Cinema 5. Both locations include full service concession counters with popcorn, nachos, soft pretzels and of course, sodas and candy.
Owned and operated by Westates Theaters who serves Nevada, Utah, Idaho and Arizona. Show times and ticket sales are available online at their website.
If neither of the movie theaters sound like your cup of tea, there is one more option for quality film viewing. Once a month in the Elko City Park a group of avid film watchers host Movie in the Park. Typically the movies are old black and white classics projected onto the large white wall of the Northeastern Nevada Museum. During special events the Movie in the Park will correspond to the theme such as Cowboy Poetry, Gambler's Run Car Show and the Motorcyle Jamboree. The atmosphere is great with a wide variety of age groups from late teens to late seniors. Bring your own chairs, blankets and food and have a great time viewing movies with others.
Elko may be a small town but don't let anyone tell you that there is nothing to do. When there is nothing to be found, we make up something.
