Movie Themed Fundraiser Ideas

Fundraising activities with movie themes can accommodate the initiatives of many groups such as movie clubs, private schools and non-profit organizations. Here are fundraiser ideas that are inexpensive and can be planned within a small timeframe.

Poster Art Auction

Challenge members of your group to redesign movie posters that represent famous films. You can allow members to select their own movie poster or give out art assignments to each participant in this fundraiser. The activity can also be centered on specific themes such as comedy movies, classic films from the 80's or summer Blockbusters. Instruct participants to design a movie poster for a specific film using photos, text, artwork or any other necessary elements. Host a live auction style fundraising event where guests can bid on their favorite posters. You can also visit local colleges to invite arts and graphic design students to design and submit a movie poster that can be used for fundraiser.

Hollywood Talent Show

Host a talent show contest where participants compete in one of several categories to win a prize and raise money for your organization. The talent show can feature skits based on popular movies, dance routines inspired by movie scenes and singing performances based on movie soundtracks. Some performance based on movies include dance routines from Footloose, Dirty Dancing or Grease, parodies of scenes from horror movies such as Nightmare on Elm Street and singing from The Wizard of Oz. Allow members to participate in performance segments during the talent show if you will be hosting the fundraiser as a private event. Charge a registration fee for non-members to participate in the talent show if you will be hosting it as a public event. Charge an admission fee to the show and assemble a group of judges who will score each performance. You can also hold an intermission where audience members pay $1 to vote for their favorite performance, depending on the size of your event.

Movie Scene Contest

Host a movie screenplays event that features live stage performances by members of your organization. You can allow participants to each perform a different scene from the same movie or assign different movie scenes that will be featured in the fundraiser. Instruct members of your organization to secure their scene space in your performance schedule by collecting pledges that would help meet the fundraising goal. All participants will compete for an award for the "best scene" at your contest, based on votes from the audience. You can also refrain from announcing the title of each performance and allow guests to try and guess the movie where each scene is from. The guests who have the right answers receive a door prize when awards are given out at the end of this event.
