Movie Themed Trivia Games for Party Guests

Nicole A.
Host a movie party theme with trivia games that can be modified to fit the environment that you want to create for guests. Here are party games that can be made appropriate for all ages and require little advanced planning.

Movie Costume Finals

Add some excitement to the typical costume contest by picking a winner who can do more than dress the part of a particular movie character. Require guests who are participating in your costume contest to answer a set of trivia questions related to specific movie characters. Guests who arrive at a Sex and the City 2 movie theme party dressed as Carrie Bradshaw would need to know what the title of her new book is called in this film in order to win the costume contest.

Set eligibility requirements to enter into the finals or allow all guests wearing costumes that represent a specific character participate in this level of your costume contest. Reward guests with a certain number of points based on your eligibility requirements for various aspects of their costume including hair, clothes, accessories and persona. Send out invitations with eligible costume categories listed on them if your party will be centered on a specific movie. The guest in each category who answers most of your trivia questions correctly wins the costume contest. A simple movie themed party could include trivia questions that span an entire collection of popular films.

Name that Movie Clip

Make a computer presentation or DVD that includes short movie clips that your guests can watch. These clips should each feature one entire scene from movies that you select and play continuously until the entire presentation has been completed. Require guests to write the title of the movies that each clip in your presentation is from on a sheet of paper. The guest who writes all or most of the correct movie titles in the order that they were presented wins this party game. Give out runner up prizes if necessary and have a short backup presentation or another game that can be used as a tie breaker ready for the top guests to play.

Don't forget the Soundtrack

Assemble a full track listing of six movie soundtracks to use as one of your party games loosely based on the Don't forget the Lyrics TV show. The track listings should include the name of each song and artist or band who performs the tune. Divide guests into two groups of players for a trivia style movie soundtrack game. Ask each group to name three songs from a specific soundtrack, including the performers who sing these tracks. Give points to these groups if they provide the correct information during their turn in this party game.

Host three rounds of trivia for each group of players, allowing them to answer their opponent's incorrect responses if necessary. Instruct each group to select one player who will compete on their behalf in a fourth and final round. Require the selected players to sing the lyrics to a song on a specific soundtrack correctly to double the points that their group has accumulated, winning your movie party game.
