Movies Based on Video Games in 2011 and Beyond
Silent Hill 2 Revelations
The sequel of the 2006 horror movie is said to start shooting this winter. It will focus on Heather Mason, a character from the Silent Hill 3 game. In the game, her nightmares lead her to the mysterious town of Silent Hill to search for her missing father. IMDb.com lists a 2011 release for the movie. Most details are still unknown, but it looks certain that Silent Hill 2 will be made.
Halo
IMDb lists the Halo live action movie release for 2012. A Halo movie has been talked about for years, so what exactly is its status? Peter Jackson was said to be involved in the project, but recently there have been rumors about Steven Spielberg taking over. Multiple scripts have been written. These scripts have been about everything from the novels, to making Master Chief a supporting character, or following his training from child to Spartan. With such a popular video game like Halo, it's almost certain a full length live action movie will be made sooner or later.
BioShock
The release date for a BioShock movie is 2013 on IMDb. Ken Levine, the creator of BioShock says the project is "actively being worked on", but he won't commit to it actually being released or not. At least if a movie is being made, it will not be PG-13, but rated R. Whether or not BioShock actually makes it, hopefully the material is not going to be changed a great deal from the game and it will be the underwater horror movie fans are waiting for.
Kane and Lynch
This video game movie has some big names like Bruce Willis and Jamie Foxx attached to it. A release date for 2011 is reported, but it still has not started filming yet. The movie has hit a few snags like directors frequently coming and going, but it does have a script. Making a 2011 release date is looking slim, but if it starts filming soon perhaps it will come out in 2012.
Other video game movie projects
Rumors about a Call of Duty movie have surfaced on and off for years. During 2009's launch of Modern Warfare 2, the buzz about a movie was at a fevered pitch. Now that Blacks Ops is out, expect the rumors to fly once again. A movie based on World of Warcraft called Warcraft, has been talked about. Directors like Sam Raimi and Guillermo del Toro were once tied to the project, but nothing is certain yet. IMDb lists a release date of 2013. Gears of Wars has also been rumored. The latest news is that it's being scaled back and it lost its director.

Not too excited about any of those possibilities personally. And for my money half of them will never happen unless there's a true blockbuster made out of video game property (Halo and Bioshock's constant delays have been mostly over how expensive they would be to make vs. what video game movies usually take in at the box office.)
